Introduction
In an innovative move to revolutionize urban transportation, Luup Co., Ltd. has announced a partnership with Val Laboratory Inc. to integrate its micro-mobility services with the well-known route search application, Ekispert. Starting November 13, 2025, users of the Ekispert app on both iOS and Android will be able to access LUUP's port information directly from the route results, facilitating a smoother commuting experience across Japan.
Background and Objective
Luup was established with the ambitious mission to create infrastructure that transforms urban spaces into more accessible areas, akin to the convenience of being near a train station. Since its launch in 2020, Luup has expanded its operations to provide micro-mobility solutions via its app, `LUUP`. This service encompasses the use of electric scooters and bikes, promoting efficient transport for both the first and last mile of any journey. Currently, there are over 15,300 ports available for micro-mobility across 20 prefectures, making it a valuable asset for over 5 million app users seeking a convenient means to travel.
On the other hand, Ekispert, launched in 1988, stands as Japan's first route search service. With over 35 years of expertise, it has equipped travelers with the latest information regarding train, bus, and air travel, helping to streamline public transport navigation. It has provided services for over 120,000 companies, facilitating everything from travel expense reimbursements to commuting calculations.
Integration Features
With this partnership, the Ekispert app will allow users to visualize LUUP port locations directly on a map within the route details screen. The integration provides not just the physical locations of ports but also their availability at a glance, indicated by varying colors on the port icons. By tapping on a port icon, users can access real-time data about the number of scooters or bikes available, as well as their operating hours. This feature aims to increase user convenience by expanding mobility options from home to station and from station to destination.
Furthermore, users will be able to switch easily to their respective sites or applications to access the latest information or to make reservations. This will not only enhance daily travel experiences but also serve as a viable alternative during railroad and bus delays or service interruptions.
User-Friendly Experience
To utilize this new feature effectively, users must ensure their Ekispert app is updated to the respective latest versions for iOS (v.3.64.0) or Android (v.3.48.0). While Ekispert can be used without any registration, accessing LUUP services necessitates prior member registration. This integration signifies an intentional move towards enhancing urban mobility by providing users with an array of transport options that complement public transit needs.
Future Directions
Luup and Ekispert's collaboration is just the beginning. By continuing to work with other companies and fostering co-creation, both firms aim to improve the overall urban mobility experience further. This partnership not only represents a step towards promoting micro-mobility as a complementary travel solution but also reinforces the ongoing commitment to innovative and sustainable mobility in Japan.
