Plus Corporation Donates Lightweight School Bags to Children in Need

Plus Corporation Supports Children with Lightweight School Bags

On May 22, 2026, Plus Corporation, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, made a significant contribution by donating 51 units of its lightweight school bags, known as "Packal," to the Osaka Children’s Welfare Association’s Aftercare Department. These bags are set to be distributed to children across multiple welfare facilities within Osaka Prefecture.

Donation Event

During the donation event, Kiji Iyama, the director of the Osaka Children's Welfare Association, was present alongside the excited children from Minagawa Gakuen. This initiative is aimed at reducing both the physical and economic burden on children living in care facilities when commuting to school. More importantly, it proposes a new approach to school supplies—shifting away from the conventional idea that backpacks should only be purchased upon enrollment and used for six consecutive years.

Addressing Modern Challenges in School Commute

In recent years, elementary school children have experienced an increase in the number of items they need to carry, including textbooks, tablets, and water bottles. This has led to a recognized issue known as "Ran-Sel Syndrome," characterized by the physical strain of carrying heavy school bags. Although there is a growing demand for reassessing school bags at various stages of a child's educational journey, children in care facilities often struggle to acquire essential school supplies at the right time.

Plus Corporation supports the independence initiatives led by the Osaka Children's Welfare Association’s Aftercare Department and has been donating stationery items since 2024. A total of three stationery donation events have taken place, with the most recent occurring in April 2026.

Features of the Lightweight School Bag "Packal"

The newly donated "Packal" school bags are designed with a weight of approximately 750 grams and feature a full-open structure that eliminates the traditional “flap” often found in backpacks. This design promotes ease of access and encourages a more comfortable commute tailored to each child’s needs, suitable not only for school but for daily use as well. To ensure that the colors chosen resonate with the children's preferences and age, the selection was made in collaboration with facility staff.
