Reju and Cibutex Team Up to Foster a Circular Textile Ecosystem
Reju and Cibutex Unite for a Sustainable Textile Future
In a groundbreaking partnership announced on February 4, 2025, Reju™, a leader in textile-to-textile regeneration, has joined forces with Cibutex, a cooperative dedicated to building a more sustainable textile supply chain. This collaboration aims to establish a circular textile ecosystem, tapping into Reju's innovative recycling technologies to transform textile waste into new materials.
Creating a Circular Textile Ecosystem
The partnership facilitates the supply of secondary raw materials derived from textile waste to Reju, which will leverage its advanced textile recycling technology to produce regenerated Reju Polyester™. This initiative positions Reju at the forefront of creating a global infrastructure capable of recycling large volumes of textile waste, particularly polyester. The regenerated material boasts a 50% reduced carbon footprint compared to virgin polyester and is infinitely recyclable.
As part of this initiative, Cibutex will mobilize its member companies to gather and process used textiles, paving the way for these materials to re-enter the production cycle. The focus is on creating a closed-loop system in the commercial textile sector, ensuring that after their useful life, B2B textiles are converted back into valuable raw materials.
Promoting Transparency and Scalability
Both Reju and Cibutex emphasize the importance of traceability and scalability in achieving a genuinely sustainable textile supply chain. Patrik Frisk, CEO of Reju, articulated the joint vision stating, "Together, we are taking up the challenge of textile waste and building the infrastructure needed to keep valuable resources out of landfills and incineration while reducing the industry's carbon footprint."
Jan Lamme, CEO of Cibutex, reflected on their cooperative's mission, founded on principles that promote a circular economy for textiles. The partnership with Reju enhances their ability to reintegrate commercial textiles back into production, ensuring quality and traceability crucial for a sustainable future.
Meeting Regulatory Demands
The collaboration comes at a pivotal moment, particularly with the recent EU mandate for textile waste collection and emerging regulations in the U.S. It highlights how such initiatives can offer scalable solutions that meet regulatory requirements, contributing to a more sustainable future in textile production.
