Survey Shows Global Confidence in China's Economic Prospects and Development: Key Findings from the Global Times Study

International Confidence in China's Development and Economic Potential

In an unprecedented survey conducted by the Global Times, nearly 80% of foreign respondents expressed optimism regarding China's development prospects. This comprehensive survey, which included a staggering 51,332 participants from 46 countries, aimed to assess the international perception of China amid significant global changes.

The Scope of the Survey

The Global Times Institute executed this survey, representing a wide demographic including 14 developed and 32 developing nations. The methodology included face-to-face interviews, computer-assisted telephone interviews, and extensive online surveys. Conducted from August through November 2024, the survey managed to compile valid data from a diverse populace aged between 18 to 70 years.

Key Findings

The results of the survey indicate that China's national capabilities are viewed favorably by international respondents, particularly in areas such as economic strength (77% favorable rating), scientific and technological advancement (75%), and financial stability (72%). Interestingly, younger demographics showed a more favorable impression of China's technological prowess.

In terms of international rankings, 20% of participants rated China as the most influential country globally, while 27% placed it second; this positions China as the second most recognized global power, close behind the United States, which had a favorable rating of 47%.

Additionally, a considerable majority of respondents held a positive outlook towards China’s economic trajectory, with around 90% believing that the Chinese economy will continue to expand over the next decade. The enthusiasm was especially vibrant among respondents from African nations, with 85% forecasting faster growth compared to their counterparts from Europe and developed countries, where this figure still surpassed 60%.

Positive Outlook on Future Relations

The survey further uncovered a noteworthy sentiment regarding China’s ongoing reform and opening-up policies, where 60% of respondents affirmed these efforts to be heading in the right direction.
