Envision Energy Joins AEA Ammonia Certification Pilot to Enhance Global Clean Ammonia Trade

Envision Energy's Commitment to Clean Ammonia Trading

Envision Energy, a leading entity in green technologies, recently announced its involvement in the pilot phase of the AEA Ammonia Certification System. This initiative, formulated by the Ammonia Energy Association (AEA), is designed to promote safe and transparent trading of low-emission ammonia on a global scale.

The AEA Ammonia Certification System is a voluntary framework that enables producers and consumers to verify key environmental attributes concerning ammonia through independently verified data. With a robust digital infrastructure created by MiQ, the system allows secure data exchange, transparency, and traceability within the ammonia supply chain, covering everything from certificate issuance to trading and eventual retirement of certificates.

Within this pilot project, three distinct supply chain traceability models are being explored: Segregated, Mass Balance, and Book & Claim. Envision Energy has opted for the 'Book & Claim' model, which addresses the logistical challenges of physically delivering ammonia over extensive distances and helps stimulate the development of a global market for green ammonia. The Book & Claim method allows the trading of environmental attributes without the need for physical transport, thereby cutting down on costs and carbon emissions while effectively decoupling green attributes from the physical supply chain. Similar models have been used in sectors like renewable energy and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), marking a first for ammonia as an application.

Frank Yu, Senior Vice President of Envision Energy, expressed enthusiasm about joining the AEA Ammonia Certification System and leveraging the Book & Claim functionality to enhance the global distribution of verified low-emission molecules. He stated, "This enables our clients to decarbonize their operations regardless of their geographic proximity to our production centers, accelerating the adoption of green ammonia as a viable, climate-neutral raw material."

Trevor Brown, Executive Director of the AEA, welcomed Envision as one of the initial participants in the pilot program. He highlighted the potential of the certification system to meet diverse customer requirements in the burgeoning low-emission ammonia markets anticipated across the Asia-Pacific region.

In March 2026, Envision successfully completed its first seamless commercial delivery of green ammonia from its Net Zero Industrial Park in Chifeng, China, to the Port of Ulsan, South Korea. This achievement validated the entire value chain, which spans from renewable Power-to-X technologies to complex international maritime logistics.

Furthermore, in July 2025, Envision commenced operations at the world's largest and most sophisticated AI-driven production facility for green hydrogen and ammonia, boasting an annual capacity of 320,000 tons. This milestone has enabled real-time optimization and stability at an industrial scale.

Frank Yu is set to present details about Envision's projects and its engagement with the AEA Ammonia Certification System during a panel discussion at the World Hydrogen 2026 Summit scheduled for May 19 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The event will also feature Trevor Brown from AEA as the moderator, promising an insightful dialogue on advancing clean ammonia initiatives and their implications for global sustainability efforts.

As the world increasingly pivots towards sustainable energy solutions, Envision Energy’s proactive stance in the ammonia sector showcases its commitment to fostering environmentally sound practices through innovation and collaboration.
