From October 24 to 29, 2025, Melbourne hosts the 14th International Smartphone Film Festival, co-presented by SmallRig and the Mobile Innovation Network and Association (MINA). This year's event showcases the intersection of mobile video technology and artistic expression, providing a global stage for creators to connect, collaborate, and advance the boundaries of mobile filmmaking.
Highlights of the Festival
The festival features an impressive lineup of 57 films made with smartphones from 21 different countries. Screenings are held at prominent venues, including the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and Fed TV in Federation Square. On the first day, ACMI will kick off with 14 international films from 12 countries, including submissions from countries like Chile, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Nigeria, China, and the United Kingdom.
From October 27 to 29, Fed Square will host 43 films divided into special sections: New Voices, Creative Category, and #EcoSmartphoneFilms, along with the notable presentation of "Youth United Will Never Be Defeated."
SmallRig's Initiative
In conjunction with the festival, SmallRig has launched the Mobile Filmmaking Co-Creation Initiative. This global platform invites creators to collaborate on developing tools, promoting mobile films, and working on original projects, aiming to enhance access to equipment and creative partnerships across more than 160 countries.
