Exploring the Frontier of AI Utilization in Retail DX and Area Analysis

Overview of the 2026 DX Club Meeting

On March 24, 2026, the first meeting of the 2026 DX Club was held online, focusing on the utilization of generative AI and advanced market analysis in the retail sector. As businesses in retail, food service, and other areas face chronic labor shortages, digital transformation (DX) has become critical. This meeting, organized collaboratively by Comix, based in Shibuya, Tokyo, and Most Research Institute, featured insightful presentations and demonstrations addressing the urgent needs of multi-store operators.

Background and Challenges

The retail and service industries are currently grappling with a significant workforce crisis, necessitating a push towards reducing manpower and enhancing operational efficiency. Although many companies acknowledge the importance of DX, the adoption rate of generative AI still stagnates at around 40%, leaving many businesses unsure of how to effectively implement these technologies. Daily tasks and documentation often overshadow the essential dialogues with customers—a challenge voiced by many in the field.

In terms of market analysis, a fundamental shift is happening from simple distance-based analyses like 'within X kilometers' to more sophisticated evaluations based on behavioral data derived from smartphone GPS. Real-world trading areas are irregular and influenced by geographical features like rivers and railways, necessitating a new understanding that sees market areas as products of human behavior. However, leveraging advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) requires expertise that many teams lack, delaying implementation.

Given this context, the DX Club established 'Retail DX' as the primary theme for its inaugural gathering. The goal was to share insights on the latest generative AI tools for operational efficiency and the application of data-driven market analysis systems.

Event Program

Over 30 member companies attended the event, which featured practical presentations and demonstrations on two main topics:

1) Presentation 1: Current State of Document Creation with Generative AI

Naruaki Adachi, Executive Officer and Head of Growth Support at Comix, presented on the latest trends in agent-based AI. He demonstrated how modern AI can generate high-quality documents simply by entering a URL, eliminating the need for extensive preliminary research. Key features included:
  • - Live demo of 'Manus 1.6MAX' for auto-generating slides from a URL and prompt
  • - Automated collection of corporate information using 'Google NotebookLM' with multi-format outputs
  • - Using 'Claude Opus 4.6' for transforming financial reports into IR materials and PowerPoint presentations
  • - Comparative demonstrations of five primary AI tools (Manus, NotebookLM, Claude, Gemini, Genspark) using the same materials
  • - Introduction to the importance of customized document generation through 'skills' functions.

2) Presentation 2: From Radius to Behavioral Data in Market Analysis

The second part featured Masashi Sato from DEECH, who discussed the history and advancements in market area analysis. Highlights included:
  • - An overview of the evolution of market analysis from the 1950s 'paper and pen' era to today's 'smartphone and GPS' behavioral data era
  • - A re-evaluation of market areas as 'structures formed by human behavior' rather than perfect circles
  • - Demonstration of the 'DEECH system', allowing users to freely create distribution areas on Google Maps with real-time estimates and orders
  • - Introduction to advanced market analysis capabilities utilizing census data and residency registration for targeting income levels and age demographics.

Value of the 2026 DX Club

  • - Practical Demonstrations of Latest Tools: The inclusion of live demos allowed attendees to visualize the implementation of these tools post-adoption.
  • - Optimal Choices through Tool Comparisons: Clear guidance on discerning suitable AI tools based on application needs, whether for design or data organization.
