GO GLOBAL PROJECT: New School Leaders Empower Youth to Explore the World

GO GLOBAL PROJECT: A Step Towards Global Experiences for Youth

The Shibuya Future Design, a general incorporated association, has made an exciting announcement regarding the GO GLOBAL PROJECT, aimed at empowering young people to explore overseas experiences. In a notable collaboration, the popular dance vocal group New School Leaders will serve as ambassadors for this project, bringing their unique flare and inspiring stories to the forefront.

Beginning July 1, 2026, the New School Leaders will release a series of candid interview videos where each of the four members shares their personal experiences of venturing abroad for the first time. They will address the initial anxieties of international travel, the surprises encountered while overseas, and provide authentic messages of encouragement to other youth considering similar journeys. These insights are not just testimonies; they represent a beacon for young people facing the challenges linked to international exploration.

The Reality of Youth Travel Rates

Currently, approximately only 18% of Japanese individuals hold passports, a number that falls short when compared to other advanced countries like the United States. Even among young people, while the passport ownership rate may be higher, factors such as the depreciation of the yen, rising travel costs, safety concerns, and language barriers often deter them from taking that critical step into the world.

The GO GLOBAL PROJECT exists to tackle these challenges head-on and promote international exchanges as a vital aspect of societal growth and development. This initiative aims to create more pathways for young individuals to embrace opportunities abroad, emphasizing a collective effort to broaden these avenues further.

Why New School Leaders?

New School Leaders, who are known for their vibrant performances and unique interpretation of Japanese culture on global stages, are successful not just in their craft but also in resonating with Japanese youth. Their presence as ambassadors of the GO GLOBAL PROJECT serves as a powerful motivation for many, embodying the very essence of stepping out into the world. With a history of international performances and appearances, they are positioned to act as role models, encouraging youth to navigate their paths overseas.

In their role as ambassadors, each member will thoroughly share their personal stories, recalling their first travels, the emotions experienced, any hurdles faced, and how they overcame them — providing a genuine connection to other young people who may feel similar apprehensions about travel.

Connecting with the Wider Narrative

The project's scope extends beyond simple travel facilitation. It seeks to instill a sense of growth in young individuals and invoke a change in societal consciousness about international exploration. By aligning with the Japan Association of Travel Agency's initiative More! Go Abroad, the GO GLOBAL PROJECT aims to synergistically amplify messages through media and visuals featuring New School Leaders. This multi-faceted approach will commence alongside the planned reduction of passport fees effective from July 1, which encompasses promotional activities and video distributions designed to inspire participation.

Looking Ahead: Celebrating Achievements

New School Leaders proudly refer to themselves as the “Representatives of Youth in Japan,” rapidly garnering recognition both domestically and abroad since their world debut under the 88rising label in 2021. Their track “Otona Blue” has achieved over 3.3 billion views on TikTok, and they have made notable appearances on platforms such as NHK's New Year’s Eve program and the prestigious Coachella festival.

With their dynamic presence shaping the cultural landscape, they aim to celebrate their 10th-anniversary tour in 2025, visiting 18 cities across Japan, Asia, and Australia. They will also host a solo concert on July 19, 2026, in London to mark their 11th anniversary, along with a forthcoming tour in Central and South America. This reflects their commitment to bridging cultural exchange and fostering global connections.

Conclusion

The GO GLOBAL PROJECT stands as a transformative movement, encouraging young people to take that first step toward global engagement. With the vital support from ambassadors like New School Leaders, the project emphasizes that international experiences are accessible to all and instrumental to personal growth.
