Special Lecture at Okayama University
Okayama University is hosting a special public lecture featuring Dr. Thomas Weiler, titled "The United Nations on Its 80th Anniversary: Challenges and Reforms from the Perspectives of the EU, Japan, and the SDGs." This event is set to take place on June 24, 2025, from 17:30 to 19:00 at the Okayama University 50th Anniversary Memorial Hall, located at the Tsushima Campus in Okayama City.
This lecture aims to review the role of the United Nations (UN) in today's global landscape. Attendees will explore several important questions, including:
1. How has the UN changed over the past 80 years?
2. What challenges does the UN currently face?
3. Does the UN still play a vital role today?
4. What are the current goals of the UN, and how will the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) be achieved?
5. How should the UN be reformed, and what should those reforms entail?
6. What roles do European nations, particularly Germany, and Japan play in a global context?
7. What contributions can universities and students make in our contemporary global society?
This event is open to all, providing a unique opportunity for participants to engage with these significant topics. While the lecture will be conducted in English, accommodations for Japanese speakers will also be available.
