The Exciting Journey to the 2025 National Tofu Competition
As we approach the much-anticipated 2025 National Tofu Competition, all eyes are on who will earn the prestigious title of "Tofu of The Year." Scheduled for September 6, this event, organized by the All Japan Tofu Federation, will highlight exceptional tofu products praised for their flavor, quality, and commitment to sustainability in alignment with SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
The competition, now in its ninth year, aims not only to recognize outstanding tofu craftsmanship but also to promote the tofu industry more broadly. The event is designed as a platform for tofu producers to showcase their creations, and it also serves as an opportunity for continuous improvement in production techniques and quality standards within the industry.
Preliminary Rounds Leading Up to the Finals
Currently, preparations are underway for regional competitions across Japan, which will serve as the qualifying rounds for the national event. Past experiences indicate that the competition regularly features around 100 participating companies and approximately 300 products. The rigorous selection process will ultimately determine this year's finalist contenders for the coveted title of "Tofu of The Year."
Each entry will undergo a thorough evaluation procedure, focusing on four main categories: cotton tofu (momen), silken tofu (kinugoshi), yudofu (soft tofu), and filled tofu (junan). The judging process will be conducted via a blind, shotgun style evaluation, where panel members will assess the tofu purely based on taste, texture, and overall quality, ensuring a fair competition.
The top prize will bear the honor of the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award, while notable awards and recognitions such as the Minister's Cabinet Office Director Award and various special awards will also be presented.
