HARUNA SHIKATA's Overwrite Exhibition: A Journey of Memory and Emotion
The ADF (Aoyama Design Forum) is thrilled to announce the 34th installment of its Art Gallery Project featuring the solo exhibition titled
Overwrite by artist
HARUNA SHIKATA. Taking place from
August 1 to August 9, 2025, at the GARDE Gallery in Minato, Tokyo, this event promises to be a profound exploration of memory and perception.
Theme and Concept
The exhibition revolves around the notion of ‘overwriting’—not as a means of erasure but as a revitalization of memories, emotions, and personal experiences. HARUNA SHIKATA’s work invites the audience to consider how past events shape present feelings, and to approach these memories with a creative and affirmative mindset. By engaging in the act of editing, SHIKATA transforms latent memories into vivid expressions of selfhood.
Artistic Approach
SHIKATA delves into her personal history, reflecting on how unprocessed information can trigger negative emotions. Her artistic method involves a diverse array of materials, including photography, illustration, and text, all subject to both analog and digital manipulation. The incorporation of techniques such as gold leaf, UV inkjet printing, and hand-painted elements allows for multilayered compositions that visually reconstruct the fabric of memory.
The act of
“Overwrite” symbolizes a transformative process where new layers of meaning and value are superimposed upon existing memories rather than eliminating them. This creative feat not only highlights the multifaceted nature of human experience but also challenges contemporary perspectives on personal evolution within society.
