The Nuclear Company's Prosperity One: A Major New Nuclear Power Complex in Kentucky

Prosperity One: A New Era in Nuclear Energy

The Nuclear Company has made a significant announcement regarding its ambitious project, Prosperity One, slated to become a nuclear power complex in Lewis County, Kentucky. This groundbreaking initiative could revolutionize the energy landscape in the region, introducing up to six Westinghouse AP1000 reactors along the Ohio River, generating a substantial combined output of approximately 6.6 gigawatts of electrical power. This project marks a historical turning point as it is poised to become the first commercial nuclear facility in Kentucky and the largest nuclear power generator in the United States.

A Response to the Energy Demand

Prosperity One responds to growing calls for energy independence and infrastructural revitalization. In alignment with former President Trump’s push for expedited energy production, this initiative aims to rebuild America’s capacity for large-scale nuclear projects. As the United States faces energy challenges, the development of such a facility will not only enhance energy generation but also stimulate economic growth in an area that has been an energy provider for over a century.

It is anticipated that the construction of this complex will lead to a surge in industrial investments, job creation for skilled technicians, and long-term economic opportunities for Lewis County and surrounding areas. Joe Klecha, the Director of Nuclear Energy at The Nuclear Company, emphasized the crucial link between community involvement and successful infrastructure projects. He stated that leveraging the expertise of local residents and fostering partnerships will be essential in bringing the complex to fruition while ensuring energy reliability for Kentucky.

Engaging with the Local Community

The Nuclear Company owns the land where the project is planned and is actively collaborating with local landowners and community leaders. Preparatory work is set to commence shortly, and the company intends to seek federal permits required to initiate construction by 2028. Klecha, a seasoned operator with 33 years of experience in nuclear energy, including serving on nuclear submarines, stressed the importance of creating sustainable jobs and enhancing local tax revenues through this initiative.

Sam Howard, a lifelong resident of Lewis County, has partnered with The Nuclear Company to facilitate the project. He is keen on establishing a robust infrastructure that can provide employment for future generations, citing a prevailing high unemployment rate in the county. “I have nine grandchildren living here in Lewis County. I want them to have the opportunity to stay,” remarked Howard, emphasizing the transformative potential of this construction project for the community's economic landscape.

Steps Towards Construction

Lewis County is poised to become one of the first counties in Kentucky to apply for designation as a community ready for nuclear development through the Kentucky Office of Nuclear Energy Development. In July 2026, local authorities unanimously initiated this process after conducting public consultations with residents and subsequently securing the majority's support for the application.

Following the identification of the proposed site, The Nuclear Company is gearing up for comprehensive engineering, environmental, regulatory, and commercial activities crucial for advancing the Prosperity One project to the construction phase. Initial actions will include detailed site characterization, geological studies, environmental impact assessments, electric grid connectivity planning, and preparations for the federal licensing process.

In line with these objectives, The Nuclear Company will collaborate closely with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to achieve necessary project approvals and ensure adherence to all licensing protocols, targeting a construction start date in 2028.

The Vision for the Future

The Nuclear Company represents a pioneering American platform for nuclear energy infrastructure. By integrating cutting-edge technology and an unprecedented vertical project delivery model, the company aims to streamline the entire nuclear project lifecycle under a unified operational structure. This initiative is not only focused on the construction and operation of new facilities but also on implementing stringent safety measures to ensure a sustainable energy future.

As Lewis County stands on the brink of a transformative journey towards becoming a nuclear power hub, the Prosperity One project is set to lead the way toward revitalizing regional economies and addressing energy demands in an environmentally responsible manner.

This new chapter in nuclear energy reflects the collective aspirations of a community ready to embrace progress while honoring its rich energy heritage.
