Transforming Logistics with AI: A Success Story of DATAFLUCT and All Japan Foods
In a landmark achievement for the logistics and food retail sectors, DATAFLUCT, a leading data analytics company based in Shibuya, Tokyo, has successfully implemented its AI-driven logistics system across all locations of All Japan Foods, a voluntary chain operating approximately 1,600 stores nationwide. This collaboration aims to significantly reduce costs and eliminate reliance on individual employee expertise in planning delivery routes.
Challenges in Food Retail Logistics
Historically, the logistics centers of All Japan Foods relied heavily on the long-term experience and judgment of their staff for planning deliveries. This method often led to inefficiencies, particularly in responding to sudden fluctuations in demand and the management of delivery routes. With the unpredictable nature of orders from member stores, the burden on logistics staff increased, especially when new areas and stores were added to the network. These challenges translated into rising logistical costs and inefficiencies in transportation, which are critical issues in the food retail industry that requires frequent and small-lot deliveries.
AI-Powered Solutions for Optimization
To address these logistical hurdles, DATAFLUCT collaborated closely with All Japan Foods to develop the Airlake Forecasting system, integrating advanced predictive AI with the Airlake platform. This system was initially piloted in the Kanto and Hokkaido regions starting in May 2023, collecting valuable data on past sales, calendar events, and delivery schedules to provide accurate demand forecasting for each store. By employing this AI technology, the company has automated the calculation of daily delivery amounts and optimized personnel allocation, effectively freeing logistics operations from reliance on individual experience.
As a result of the pilot’s success, the system has now been rolled out to 46 logistics centers across the country, fundamentally optimizing logistics operations company-wide and paving the way for a sustainable logistics network.
