Continuing Support for Young Women in Education
North Island Credit Union recently celebrated its fifth year of partnership with the North County African American Women's Association (NCAAWA) by awarding four notable college scholarships to local students. Each scholarship amounts to $2,500, demonstrating the credit union's commitment to empowering young African American women in their pursuit of higher education. This year's recipients received their awards during the
2025 Salute to Scholars Celebration held on May 7 at El Camino Country Club in Oceanside, CA.
The winners of the North Island Credit Union 2025 Scholarships include:
- - Janae Fraizer: A recent graduate from El Camino High School, now attending California Baptist University with a planned major in Biomedical Instruction.
- - Amaya Huggins: A graduate from Sage Creek High School who is pursuing Liberal Studies at California State University San Marcos.
- - Courtney Huggins: Also from Sage Creek High School, she is studying Child Adolescent Development at California State University San Marcos.
- - Rosalinda Jolivette: She has chosen Hampton University to study School Counseling.
Steve O'Connell, President/CEO of North Island Credit Union, expressed pride in continuing the collaboration with NCAAWA. Financial Education and Empowerment

They provide financial literacy training for high school girls in the NCAAWA's Global Ambassadors Mentoring Program, which aims to empower young girls of color with leadership development skills as well as a sound understanding of financial literacy and global issues impacting their future careers.
