Ride the Subway Animation Exhibition in Kyoto

Kyoto City Transportation Bureau announces its first-ever animation-focused exhibition, titled 'Ride the Subway Animation Exhibition', taking place in the heart of Kyoto from May 24 to May 29, 2025. This unique event will be hosted at FRAME in VOX, located in the Kawaramachi area, and is part of the broader campaign to encourage the use of subways and buses in the city through beloved characters from the 'Ride the Subway' project.

• - Hours: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM (with special hours on the first and last days)
• - Venue: FRAME in VOX, 3rd Floor, Kawaramachi VOX Building, Chukyo Ward, Kyoto
• - Entry Fee: Free of charge (with paid events for the opening and closing)

This exhibition is part of the celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of Gyorai Eizou Co., Ltd., the production company responsible for creating the animated content behind 'Ride the Subway'. It serves as a critical milestone in promoting public transportation through engaging animation.

The exhibition promises an exciting lineup of activities, appealing to animation fans and transit enthusiasts alike:

• - Animation Screenings: View the impressive lineup featuring commercials, short films, and a special 10th-anniversary movie.
• - Production Materials Display: A chance to see original illustrations, storyboards, character design proposals, and other unique production materials previously unreleased to the public.
• - Historical Highlights: Marvel at photographs and merchandise from past 'Ride the Subway' events.
• - Merchandise Sales: Exclusive items will be available for purchase, including new products unique to the exhibition.

Entry Information

To manage the anticipated crowds, the exhibition will prioritize pre-registered visitors on the first day, May 24. While reservations are strongly encouraged, entry will still be possible if space allows. Visitors can make reservations using the following link: Reservation Form. About 'Ride the Subway'

'Ride the Subway' promotes the use of Kyoto’s subway and city bus services. The initiative features three endearing characters: Moegi Uzumasa, Saki Matsuga, and Misa Ono, childhood friends advocating for public transport usage alongside Moegi's sister Rei Uzumasa, Misa’s brother Ryo Ono, and their companion Takeru Jujo. Developed in collaboration with the design office GK Kyoto and illustrator Kamogawa, these characters debuted in 2010, supporting the Kyoto Municipality’s Young Staff Campaign to increase ridership.
