Southern Telecom and Seimitsu Launch SouthernWaves for South Downtown Atlanta Project

Southern Telecom and Seimitsu Unite for Connectivity

In a significant move towards bolstering connectivity in the Southeast, Southern Telecom, a subsidiary of the Southern Company, and Seimitsu, a prominent broadband networking solutions provider based in Savannah, have announced the formation of a new strategic partnership called SouthernWaves. This innovative alliance aims to deliver advanced fiber-optic network services, significantly enhancing the digital landscape of South Downtown Atlanta.

Bentina Terry, the president and CEO of Southern Telecom, expressed her enthusiasm about SouthernWaves, stating, "This collaboration brings together the robust network of Southern Telecom and the innovative expertise of Seimitsu. It is an important step in the provision of state-of-the-art fiber-optic network services that meet the demands of today’s digital society. Together, we will set a new standard for connectivity, reliability, and security for our valued customers."

Traditionally, Southern Telecom has focused primarily on providing dark fiber services, which require clients to manage their own networking equipment. The launch of SouthernWaves marks a paradigm shift as it introduces lit services, where Seimitsu takes the helm in illuminating and managing bandwidth across Southern Telecom’s secure fiber routes. These routes are strategically installed in secure conduits, ensuring safety and reliability.

One standout feature of SouthernWaves is its commitment to 24/7 network monitoring. Operated from a state-of-the-art Network Operations Center in Savannah, this feature ensures rapid response against potential threats, emphasizing security and immediate relief during unforeseen challenges. For businesses relying on constant connectivity, this solution substantially reduces the complexities often associated with conventional network management, allowing them to concentrate on their primary operations.

A pivotal aspect of the SouthernWaves project is its collaboration with Georgia Power, as they secure an agreement to cater to the South Downtown Atlanta project, a transformative venture aimed at rehabilitating the historic neighborhood. The initiative plans to convert 56 buildings across 10 continuous blocks into an expansive second location of Atlanta Tech Village.

Jon Birdsong, CEO of SoDo Atlanta, LLC and one of the driving visionaries behind the South Downtown project, remarked, "The synergy between Southern Telecom and Seimitsu will revolutionize the connectivity landscape in Atlanta. With their support, we are poised to harness fiber’s faster, reliable, and durable capabilities to further propel our community into a brighter, innovative future. This high-capacity infrastructure will lend vital support to a myriad of essential services, from data logistics to emergency responses, ensuring both efficiency and safety in our operations."

As Seimitsu drives the technology infrastructure side of the project, Southern Telecom facilitates the metro fiber infrastructure, proving to be a comprehensive and effective partnership that meets the diverse technology needs of developers in the area. Georgia Power’s involvement further strengthens the collaboration, providing a cohesive technology solution that fosters seamless commerce, spur innovation, and access to sophisticated services vital for the economic revival of South Downtown Atlanta.
