Monex Securities Partners with Broadridge to Enhance US Voting Rights for Japanese Investors

Enhancing Investor Engagement: Monex Securities and Broadridge Join Forces

Monex Securities, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, has recently signed a pivotal agreement with Broadridge Financial Solutions, based in New York, to introduce a voting rights exercise service for US stocks to Japanese investors. This innovative service will allow individual investors in Japan to utilize Broadridge's online voting platform for the first time, marking a significant milestone in investment engagement. The service is expected to launch in the winter of 2025.

Traditionally, when Japanese investors purchase US stocks through local brokerage firms, the shares are managed under the brokerage's name. This means that the investors’ names are not recorded in the shareholders' registry, and they typically do not have voting rights associated with their holdings. Consequently, direct participation in corporate governance for Japanese investors has been challenging. However, with Broadridge's comprehensive voting rights exercise services, Monex Securities aims to empower its clients to participate actively in US corporate governance.

The new service will provide thorough support including the distribution of meeting notices, gathering and reporting votes for both annual and special shareholder meetings.

Akio Jitsuka, Executive Officer and Product Department Head at Monex Securities, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership, stating, "We are thrilled to become the first Japanese brokerage firm to enable individual investors to easily engage in the governance of US-listed companies online. By utilizing Broadridge’s trusted expertise and innovative technology, we expect to offer enhanced services to our clients."

David Laneykars, the President for Asia-Pacific at Broadridge, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of facilitating Japanese investors' engagement with the governance of the companies they invest in. He highlighted that Broadridge’s reliable and innovative digital solutions will allow Monex clients to invest in US corporations with greater accessibility, efficiency, and transparency.
