From June 13 to 15, 2025, the Osaka Kansai Expo held the event "Tohoku Shiki no Irodori & Tohoku Kizuna Matsuri" at the Expo Arena's "Matsuri" venue. This remarkable event allowed attendees to immerse themselves in the rich culture and vibrant landscapes of the Tohoku region through an innovative immersive installation known as the "Tohoku Trip Theatre."

Situated in the expansive "Tohoku Trip Zone," this unique dome-shaped projection theater offered a stunning visual experience. Built by 360Real, a leading immersive technology company based in Minato, Tokyo, the theatre showcased a mesmerizing 7-minute video that displayed the four seasons of Tohoku, its culinary delights, and festive celebrations, all through advanced imaging technology called Villusion360.

The Villusion360 solution allows a single projector to project vivid images across up to five surfaces - walls, floor, and ceiling. With a powerful adjustable brightness of up to 20,000 lumens and a reversible design that accommodates both ceiling and floor placements, tailored installations are seamlessly executed based on the space's requirements.

Visitors could relish this immersive experience every 15 minutes, with each session welcoming up to 30 participants, who were seated to gaze upwards at the expansive visuals, making them feel as if they were enveloped in Tohoku's natural beauty.

Event Highlights

The event attracted an impressive total of approximately 54,000 visitors. It provided guests with a free viewing experience (separate admission to the Osaka-Kansai Expo was required). Each screening transported attendees through a blend of stunning visuals and high-quality sound, simulating the feeling of being in Tohoku itself.
