Maker’s Watch Knot is making waves in the watch industry with a promising new project on Kickstarter. With a mission to deliver Japan's exquisite culture and craft to the world through unique wristwear, Knot has unveiled a series of watches that incorporate traditional Aizu lacquer techniques, expertly crafted by artisans. The Kickstarter campaign aims to make these beautiful timepieces accessible to a larger audience while maintaining the high quality and aesthetic of Japanese craftsmanship.
Since starting its cross-border eCommerce operations, Knot has gained recognition for its ‘Japan Concept Series’, which blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary watch design. The premium watches, particularly those featuring lacquer finishes, have been lauded for their intricate beauty. However, the limited production numbers and high prices of these artisan-made mechanical watches have made them exclusive and hard to obtain, creating a unique niche market.
In a bid to change this perception and reach a wider customer base, Knot is introducing a new model on Kickstarter, featuring dial plates crafted in the same elaborate way as their Japan Concept Series. The models, based on their classic thin C-36 Small Second and the CAP-38 Mechanical Open Heart designs, allow customers to appreciate traditional craftsmanship at more accessible price points. This innovative approach opens the door for enthusiasts to experience the allure of these mesmerizing watches.
Continuing their collaboration with renowned Aizu lacquer artisan Shinichi Otake, this new line adopts traditional Marquetry techniques. Gold powder embellishes the red lacquer, while the black lacquer is speckled with platinum powder, creating an original and luxurious aesthetic.
Furthermore, to enhance the customer experience, Knot has made sure that watch straps are customizable. Backers can choose from five popular strap lines, including Tochigi leather in eight colors, Kumihimo in two colors, Tatami border in two colors, Kaichara denim in three colors, and Inden in two colors. This personalization allows wearers to match their timepiece with their daily outfits or personal style.
For those interested in seeing the watches up close, Knot plans to exhibit the actual models in their gallery shops, promising a unique opportunity to admire these exquisite timepieces in person. Locations include Omotesando in Tokyo, Kyoto, and the ONE FUKUOKA BLDG in Fukuoka.
