Huawei Introduces Innovative AI Energy Solutions at Global Electric Power Summit 2026

Unveiling a New Era in Power Systems

At the recent Huawei Connect 2026 event, the tech giant held the 2026 Global Electric Power Summit under the compelling theme: "AI × Energy: Unlocking a New Power System." This summit gathered over 600 representatives from global power companies, industry organizations, and media outlets, all focused on addressing the pressing need for integrating energy transitions with digital and intelligent technologies.

Huawei's commitment to innovation is vividly demonstrated through the presentation of six pioneering power showcases at the summit. These showcases highlight the journey of digital and intelligent transformation, marking a significant step towards a future where power generation and consumption are streamlined and interconnected like never before. This shift signifies a transition from traditional energy models to a more synergistic approach that embraces the capabilities of computing power.

The global energy landscape is witnessing a notable transformation, predominantly driven by the rise of distributed renewable energy sources. This shift is integral to reducing dependency on external resources while enhancing the resilience of power grids and ensuring universal electricity access. Notably, Philippe Adam, Secretary-General of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE), emphasized how technological advancements are essential for the future of the power industry. He noted that the intertwined challenges of the renewable energy transition and the requirement for intelligent transformation are pivotal in overcoming the electricity access crisis affecting 700 million people globally.

Huawei recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) has become indispensable in modern power systems. The company anticipates that addressing low voltage management—often recognized as the Achilles' heel of power grids—will increasingly rely on AI solutions, which necessitate systems that allow for observability, measurability, controllability, adjustability, tradability, and traceability. These six core capabilities are critical for sustainable long-term management.

David Sun, CEO of Huawei Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, stressed that enhancing low-voltage transparency is paramount. This transparency hinges on faster data processing, improved quality, and cost efficiency. To foster the emergence of a new power system, the sector must prioritize three core tenets: developing digital talent, advancing digital infrastructure, and establishing a well-regulated digital asset base.

Showcases of Success: A Glimpse into the Future

The six showcases revealed during the summit epitomize effective practices across various scenarios through the lens of the intelligent energy era:
1. Digital and Intelligent Grid from CEMIG in Brazil, showcasing advanced operational efficiencies.
2. A new power system demonstration zone at the Guangzhou Baiyun Power Supply Bureau, exemplifying seamless distribution and microgrid integration.
3. Intelligent Diagnosis and smart operations for the new power distribution network in Shaoshan, Hunan, China.
4. Smart Energy Solutions implemented for both supply and consumption in Jiangxi, China.
5. The state-of-the-art ±800 kV UHV Digital Converter Station located in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, China.
6. A robust Power Communication Network developed in Liaoning, China.

Each of these showcases represents a significant milestone in Huawei’s ongoing mission to lead the charge in digital transformation, enabling a comprehensive transformation throughout the power process.

As Huawei looks to the horizon, the focus remains steadfast on leveraging its strengths in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). By utilizing its three-layer framework comprising metrics, architectures, and technologies, the company aims to collaborate closely with global power companies, standards organizations, and partners in the ecosystem. This collaborative approach is intended to drive innovation, stimulate industry upgrades, and ultimately contribute to a flourishing ecosystem for the energy sector.

The 2026 Global Electric Power Summit thus serves as a launching pad for futuristic strategies and solutions destined to evolve the power industry into an intelligent and efficient powerhouse, capable of meeting the energy demands of tomorrow’s world.
