Centrus Energy Announces Major Partnership with Geiger Brothers for Uranium Enrichment Expansion
On April 20, 2026, Centrus Energy Corp. (NYSE: LEU) made a significant leap forward in its ongoing uranium enrichment efforts by selecting Geiger Brothers, Inc. as its construction contractor for the expansion of its uranium enrichment plant in Piketon, Ohio. This move marks a pivotal moment in Centrus' mission to scale up the production of Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU) and High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU). With this partnership, Centrus aims to deploy thousands of new centrifuges that are crucial for meeting both commercial and national security demands.
In conjunction with this announcement, Centrus confirmed that Fluor Corporation is serving as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. Fluor oversees the design, project management, and supply chain activities. Meanwhile, Geiger Brothers will handle the essential on-site construction tasks. Centrus is optimistic that this collaborative approach will enhance efficiencies and potentially reduce project costs.
"Geiger Brothers brings more than a century of construction experience and a strong local workforce to our initiative," said Centrus President and CEO Amir Vexler. He underscored Geiger's expertise in complex industrial projects as essential for scaling production capacity effectively. By partnering with Fluor's global EPC expertise and Geiger's local capabilities, Centrus is dedicated to executing this expansion safely and efficiently.
Geiger Brothers, headquartered in Jackson, Ohio, have been a stalwart in the construction and engineering sector since their founding in 1909. The firm specializes in multi-discipline construction, offering mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and industrial construction solutions primarily within Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Tennessee. Their focus on safety and quality aligns perfectly with Centrus's ongoing commitment to operational excellence.
They have previously collaborated with Centrus in the construction of existing HALEU cascades, and they played a vital role in developing an earlier LEU demonstration cascade completed in 2013. Erik Massie, President and CFO of Geiger Brothers, expressed pride in supporting such a high-stakes investment in America’s nuclear fuel supply chain. He highlighted the importance of this project in contributing to U.S. energy security and creating local employment opportunities.
Centrus's multi-billion-dollar expansion plans are set to add thousands of AC100M centrifuges at its American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon. This endeavor will not only restore America’s capabilities to enrich uranium significantly but also reinforce the nation's energy independence through domestic technology. In December 2025, Centrus initiated centrifuge manufacturing in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, setting the stage for this anticipated expansion. This newly added capacity is expected to support a $2.3 billion commercial LEU backlog while producing at least 12 metric tons per year of urgently-required HALEU.
Centrus Energy has established itself as a reliable American supplier of nuclear fuel, assisting utility customers in meeting the surging demand for clean and affordable energy. Since 1998, Centrus has delivered over 1,850 reactor years of fuel, a remarkable achievement equivalent to more than 7 billion tons of coal. The company is at the forefront of producing High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium and is working diligently to restore America’s uranium enrichment capacity. This endeavor supports the country's clean energy, energy security, and national security needs.
