Exclusive Black Estate Wine Dinner at Benjamin Steakhouse Kioicho

On May 27, 2026, Benjamin Steakhouse Kioicho in Tokyo invites you to indulge in a one-night-only event featuring a carefully curated menu in collaboration with Black Estate, a renowned winery from North Canterbury, New Zealand. Guests will savor exceptional pairings of food and wine while enjoying the presence of winery owners Nicholas Brown and Penelope Naish.

Nestled in the picturesque Waipara Valley, Black Estate is known for its natural and clean winemaking, having been awarded "New Zealand Winemaker of the Year" by Gourmet Traveller WINE in 2022.

At this special Wine Maker's Dinner, attendees will be treated to a unique culinary experience, with a menu crafted specifically for this evening by the talented chefs at Benjamin Steakhouse. The meal will feature six exquisite courses designed to perfectly complement six different wines from Black Estate, allowing guests to experience a harmonious pairing that celebrates both American culture and the terroir of New Zealand.

The evening will begin at 6:30 PM with an enchanting amuse-bouche: California burrata cheese with a fruit caprese. This light and refreshing starter will be showcased alongside Netherwood Pet Nat NV, which boasts aromas of honeysuckle and pear blossom, invigorating bubbles, and a fruity mid-palate, providing a delightful start to the tasting.

Next up is a dish of white asparagus seasoned with Cajun spices served with a béarnaise sauce, paired with Damsteep Riesling 2023. The spice of the asparagus contrasts beautifully with the wine’s sharp acidity, creating a multi-dimensional palate experience.

The evening continues with a grilled lobster finished with brown butter and roasted nuts, paired with Home Chardonnay 2020. The richness of the lobster's flavor combined with the wine's nutty notes creates a classic seafood and wine pairing that will linger on the palate.

As the meal progresses, diners will savor a roast rack of lamb from New Zealand accompanied by Tasmania mustard and chimichurri sauce, partnered with Home Cabernet Franc 2023. The juicy texture of the lamb, enriched by the red fruit aromas from the wine, creates a sweet and savory harmony.

For the main attraction, USDA Prime dry-aged T-bone steak will be served with two different Pinot Noirs: Damsteep Pinot Noir 2020 and Netherwood Pinot Noir 2020. Both wines complement the steak's robust flavors, but each brings its own unique profile to elevate the dining experience.

The evening concludes with a dessert of rhubarb layer cake paired with a post-dinner coffee, ensuring a sweet finish to an unforgettable meal.

In addition to the culinary delights, guests will have the unique opportunity to engage with Nicholas Brown and Penelope Naish as they share insights about Black Estate’s philosophy and the stories behind their wines, enriching the dining experience further.
