ATxSummit 2026: A Global Focus on AI for Public Good

The ATxSummit 2026 commenced this evening under the auspices of the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore, with a distinguished gala dinner at the picturesque Gardens by the Bay. This event gathered prominent figures, including Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, as the Guest-of-Honour, alongside government officials from Asia, the Middle East, and the USA.

This year’s summit serves as a platform for engaging discussions on harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) as a force for good. Key participants included leaders from international organizations such as the World Bank, OECD, and ITU. Additionally, the event brought together industry giants and academic pioneers in AI and technology. Notable names included Denise Dresser, Chief Revenue Officer at OpenAI; David Zapolsky, Amazon's Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer; Jane Sun, CEO of Trip.com Group; and two esteemed professors, Yoshua Bengio from the University of Montreal and Dawn Song from UC Berkeley.

Empowering the Youth Through AI

A significant highlight of the gala was the presentation of 11 innovative youth projects that emerged from the inaugural AI Ready ASEAN Youth Challenge, which aims to foster AI literacy among young people in the region. With AI integration in ASEAN reaching an impressive 85% in 2024, these initiatives showcased the potential of youth-driven AI solutions to contribute to societal welfare.

The projects, which were shortlisted from over 600 submissions, targeted various critical areas, including healthcare, education, and social inclusivity. President Tharman recognized the outstanding contributions of three teams from Brunei, Cambodia, and Myanmar, which demonstrated exceptional creativity and effectiveness in addressing community challenges.

Brunei’s winning project, ΣHAI, introduced a groundbreaking AI dementia care platform that employs speech, language, and video analysis for early detection and tailored caregiver support. Meanwhile, Cambodia’s Voha.ai provides a unique solution for hearing-impaired children, employing real-time speech recognition to enhance pronunciation skills, and Myanmar’s Future Flux delivers offline AI educational tools to rural students, promoting innovative learning experiences.

Advancing AI in Healthcare

Earlier in the day, vital partnerships were established through two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) focused on enhancing AI-driven healthcare solutions. During the SingHealth AI in Health Symposium, stakeholders signed agreements aimed at developing responsible and effective AI applications for advancing patient care across Southeast Asia.

One MoU was signed between SingHealth and the Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology from Bhutan, highlighting the goal of using AI to meet healthcare needs in emerging systems. The collaboration will focus on an AI-assisted Chest Radiograph model, which aims to deliver high-quality diagnostic capabilities to underserved regions.

Additionally, Singapore General Hospital partnered with A*STAR’s Diagnostics Development Hub to accelerate the deployment of precision diagnostics powered by AI, targeting conditions like antimicrobial resistance and early memory loss detection.
