Mielle's $1 Million Investment to Transform Teen Mental Health Programs in Chicago
In an impressive move to support the mental health of underserved youth, Mielle Cares has unveiled its `MiSpace Grant`, distributing a total of $1 million to five nonprofit community centers across Chicago. Founded by the creators of Mielle Organics, Melvin and Monique Rodriguez, Mielle Cares aims to empower the next generation by emphasizing the importance of mental wellness.
A Focus on Mental Health for Teens
The MiSpace Grant is Mielle Cares' most substantial investment to date, reflecting the organization's commitment to improving emotional well-being among teens and preteens. Each community center selected for this grant will receive between $75,000 and $500,000 to implement programs that cater to mental health needs. The funded initiatives will include group therapy, mindfulness practices, narrative therapy, and arts-based healing, all designed for youth aged 11-18 who often encounter systemic barriers to accessing proper care.
Monique Rodriguez, the co-founder and CEO of Mielle Organics, expressed pride in supporting local organizations and highlighted the alarming statistics regarding mental health issues among children and teens in Illinois—nearly half report increased symptoms. "At Mielle, we believe that success starts in the mind," she articulated. "Our investment will provide young people with the tools necessary to cultivate emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and resilience."
The Importance of Community Partnerships
Melvin Rodriguez, the co-founder and COO of Mielle Cares, emphasized the need to collaborate with local organizations that already have established trust within their communities. He stated, "Partnering with trusted community organizations allows us to meet young people where they are. Our role is to amplify their efforts and ensure they have the resources to help youth identify challenges, heal from adversity, and rebuild their future."
The centers selected through a competitive application process will implement their programs over the upcoming year. This initiative is part of Mielle Cares' broader strategy, which includes its ongoing `MiMental Mindset` program, helping hundreds of students since its launch in 2018 with curriculum-based wellness education and after-school activities.

Building a National Movement
Mielle Cares was established in 2018 and promotes holistic well-being while fostering a supportive community for teens and preteens. With its focus on access, healing, and trust, the MiSpace Grant is a vital component in building a national movement aimed at improving youth mental health.
As Shonta Connolly, Executive Director of Mielle Cares, articulates, "These community centers have been doing powerful, consistent work to uplift young people in their neighborhoods. The MiSpace Grant allows us to amplify that impact—providing the resources, connections, and support needed to expand mental wellness opportunities for deserving teens and preteens."
With this generous investment, Mielle Cares is setting a precedent for corporate social responsibility, demonstrating the essential role businesses can play in addressing pressing social issues like mental health and community support. To learn more about Mielle Cares and its initiatives, visit
