Discover the Seasonal Delicacy: Tororo Sukiyaki at Soshiji Restaurants

A Culinary Summer Experience at Soshiji

On August 15, 2026, Soshiji restaurants across Japan will launch a limited-time seasonal dish, Tororo Sukiyaki. This exciting addition is crafted by FTG Company, which operates over 130 dining establishments globally, including the renowned Soshiji brand.

The Allure of Tororo

Tororo, which is made from grated yam, captures the essence of summer, acting as a soothing remedy for the fatigued body during the hot season. Known for its smooth texture, it is rich in nutrients including the digestive enzyme diastase and Vitamin B1, both of which contribute to fatigue recovery and help prevent summer lethargy. This traditional ingredient not only enhances the sukiyaki experience but also offers a healthy offset to the rich flavors of meat.

A Unique Twist on Sukiyaki

The Tororo Sukiyaki presents a unique twist on classic sukiyaki by harmonizing the sweet and savory broth with the light, airy texture of tororo. Customers can relish a dish that perfectly embodies ‘Harmony,’ a core concept associated with the Soshiji brand. The tororo is freshly grated upon order, ensuring every bite captures its essence.

At Soshiji’s Nakameguro and Azabujuban locations, a soft launch began on August 11, where diners praised the dish for its perfect balance, even those who typically shy away from fatty meats. One guest remarked that the beef’s fat, enveloped in tororo, made it easier to enjoy this delightful dish.

Tororo Sukiyaki Course Offerings

Soshiji presents various course options for tororo sukiyaki lovers:
  • - Tororo Sukiyaki Set [Upper]: 3,480 yen (tax included: 3,828 yen) - Includes lean meat, vegetables, tororo, and Soshiji egg.
  • - Tororo Sukiyaki Set [Special]: 3,880 yen (tax included: 4,268 yen) - Includes lean meat, vegetables, tororo, and Soshiji egg.
  • - Tororo Sukiyaki Set [Heaven]: 4,480 yen (tax included: 4,928 yen) - Includes marbled meat, vegetables, tororo, and Soshiji egg.

Seasonal A La Carte Options

In addition to the sukiyaki, customers can enhance their meal with seasonal a la carte options:
  • - Watermelon Eggplant Sashimi: 700 yen (tax included: 770 yen)
  • - Okra Ohitashi: 500 yen (tax included: 550 yen)

These dishes showcase fresh vegetables to complement the summer flavors of tororo sukiyaki. Soshiji also offers a selection of fine wines, sake, and whiskey, making it a perfect spot for summer appetizers.

Summer Sukiyaki Reimagined

As the calendar indicates the end of summer, Japan’s humidity remains, which made Soshiji's product development team rethink how to make sukiyaki appealing during this season. “We aimed to create a summer-appropriate menu that allows guests to enjoy sukiyaki without overwhelming heat,” shared a member of the team. Thoughtful consideration was given to ensure that tororo doesn’t stick to the pot, enhancing the overall dining experience.
