AdventHealth Breaks Ground on New Emergency Room
AdventHealth celebrated a significant milestone recently by breaking ground on its new emergency room in New Port Richey, Florida. This facility is expected to bring high-quality emergency care closer to the residents of West Pasco County, addressing the growing healthcare needs within the community. Local leaders, AdventHealth officials, and community partners gathered for a ceremony to mark this major endeavor, which was recognized as a vital investment for both community health and economic development in the area.
A Growing Need for Emergency Care
As the population continues to rise in Pasco County, there is an increasing need for convenient access to emergency care. Andrew Santos, the president and CEO of AdventHealth North Pinellas, stated, "This new emergency room represents our commitment to meeting our community where they are and ensuring families receive high-quality care close to home when seconds matter most."
The new facility, covering over 13,000 square feet, will feature 12 patient beds along with an array of advanced emergency services. Among its capabilities will be on-site imaging services, including X-ray and CT scans, portable ultrasound, a laboratory dedicated to emergency assessments, and multiple treatment bays and triage areas made to expedite the process of emergency admissions.
Enhancing Patient Experience and Care
Not only will this new ER provide immediate care for everyday medical issues as well as life-threatening emergencies, but it is also strategically designed to ease the burden on local hospitals and speed up response times for both patients and first responders. The estimated job creation for this facility stands at approximately 35, further contributing to the economic well-being of the region.
State Senator Ed Hooper emphasized the importance of the project stating, "This project is about people. It’s about ensuring residents have access to critical services where they live, supporting first responders, and creating jobs in an expanding area of our county."
Designed by HuntonBrady Architects, the facility will focus on patient-centered care and operational efficiency, with construction led by Batson-Cook Construction, experts in health care development.
The Future of AdventHealth in Pasco County
Dr. Matthew Smith, an associate medical director of emergency medicine at AdventHealth North Pinellas who will be practicing at the new ER, added, "As an emergency physician, I see firsthand how access, space and technology impact patient care. This new emergency department will give care teams the tools they need to respond quickly and effectively while allowing patients to receive care closer to home."
This innovative emergency room further expands AdventHealth's commitment to delivering whole-person care that embraces the mind, body, and spirit, reinforcing their mission of investing in the long-term health of the communities they serve.
Construction is currently underway at the designated site of 6523 State Road 54, New Port Richey, FL 34653, with the new emergency department anticipated to open its doors in Winter 2026.
