ESTEVE CDMO Expands Global Manufacturing Capabilities with Major Investment in China

ESTEVE CDMO Expands Its Manufacturing Footprint in China

In a significant move set to bolster its global manufacturing capabilities, ESTEVE CDMO is investing over $80 million in the expansion and modernization of its existing operations in Shaoxing, China. This initiative is a vital part of ESTEVE’s goal to enhance its reach and service capabilities in the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific pharmaceutical market.

The new facility, strategically located in China, marks an important chapter in ESTEVE CDMO's commitment to the region, further building on more than 20 years of successful presence. The investment will introduce three state-of-the-art manufacturing workshops, which will add a total reaction volume of 250 m³ to the existing infrastructure. Moreover, there’s ample provision for an additional 150+ m³, anticipating future growth and evolving market demands.

Capacity and Technological Advancements

Designed with advanced manufacturing technologies and digitalization at its core, the Shaoxing facility promises enhanced operational capabilities. The incorporation of a centralized control center and automated systems enhances efficiency, allowing for scale, agility, and quick adaptation to pharmaceutical partners' needs. Furthermore, the facility aligns with global standards, offering cutting-edge technologies such as Spray Drying and HPAPI manufacturing, which are critical for the development of complex small-molecule APIs.

“Investing in China is a significant milestone for ESTEVE CDMO,” emphasized Joan Petit, President of ESTEVE CDMO. “It enhances our proximity to Asian customers while leveraging our global expertise to build a leading contract development and manufacturing organization that is capable of supporting our partners worldwide. This investment will ultimately make a difference for patients and help us achieve our shared purpose of improving lives.”

Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility

In addition to expanding its capabilities, ESTEVE CDMO has prioritized sustainability in designing the new facility. The site has earned a “Very Good” BREEAM rating, reflecting a commitment to environmental responsibility and health standards. The project's design incorporates eco-friendly practices and efficient use of resources, reinforcing ESTEVE’s B Corp Certification, which holds the organization accountable to high standards of social and environmental performance.

With this expansion, ESTEVE CDMO is not only enhancing its production capabilities but also showcasing its dedication to responsible practices. The facility’s design includes extensive safety features and environmental considerations to ensure operational excellence that aligns with the global healthcare landscape.

A Long-standing Commitment to China

ESTEVE opened its first joint venture in China back in 2000 and has since nurtured robust local relationships and capabilities, establishing itself as a reputable API manufacturer in the region. As the company continues to invest in local expertise, it’s preparing for even greater contributions to the healthcare sector, potentially benefitting not only local communities but also global markets.

Francisco de Asís Benítez Salas, Consul General of Spain in Shanghai, remarked on ESTEVE’s commitment, stating, “This investment is a clear reflection of the value and importance that long-term dedication and innovative approaches can deliver to the local community.”

Conclusion

As ESTEVE CDMO embarks on this new chapter, it reinforces its strategic position within the global manufacturing ecosystem, complementing its facilities across Europe, the Americas, and now, a stronger presence in Asia. By creating a scalable, resilient, and well-equipped manufacturing platform, ESTEVE CDMO is poised to support the increasing demands of pharmaceutical partners in the region and beyond. With a firm ambition to advance its operations, ESTEVE continues on its path to improving lives through high-quality, specialized healthcare solutions.
