Exploring Timeless Beauty in Rumah Rubah through Pierrot's Lens

Capturing Serenity: Pierrot's Lens on Rumah Rubah

Nestled between the earth and the sky, Rumah Rubah stands as a serene retreat in the tranquil highlands of Pererenan, Bali. This magnificent house, crafted from locally-sourced teak wood, exudes warmth and light, embodying a peaceful presence that is both welcoming and inspiring. Designed by Maximilian Jencquel of Studio Jencquel, this residence is co-founded by Gildas Loaëc of Maison Kitsuné, and is highly acclaimed in global design publications.

Rumah Rubah is surrounded by a lush 4,000 square meter tropical garden filled with century-old Bodhi and Pulai trees, creating an atmosphere that feels alive, almost like a single breathing organism. Its unique roof structure facilitates the free flow of wind and sunlight, while sustainable technologies like solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems support a harmonious, eco-friendly lifestyle. Each architectural detail is infused with a profound respect for nature, time, and craftsmanship.

Photographer Pierrot aims to depict this serene harmony through monochromatic images that resonate with timeless beauty. Renowned for his ability to capture the emotional space between the subject and the viewer, his lens transforms Rumah Rubah into a meditative landscape. The images reflect moments where shadows and light entwine, revealing the rich expressions found in tranquility.

The book, spanning 112 pages and printed on archival-quality paper, presents intimate moments of the house. Readers will find evocative scenes such as the centennial frangipani tree in the airy atrium, light reflecting off the tranquil pool at sunset, artfully crafted teak furniture resembling sculptures, and the quiet presence of the Bale Kulkul tower nestled in the garden among riverside temples. This is more than just a visual record; it is an experiential journey into the aesthetic allure of space.

Bound in luxurious textural hardcover with delicate embossing, RUMAH RUBAH includes a foreword by architect Maximilian Jencquel himself. The book expands upon the philosophy embodied by the residence, showcasing the care and intention poured into its design through precision offset printing.
