AI and New Energy Vehicles Take Center Stage at World Smart Industry Expo 2025

AI and New Energy Vehicles at the World Smart Industry Expo 2025 in Chongqing

The World Smart Industry Expo 2025 commenced on September 5th in Chongqing, gathering more than 550 companies and showcasing over 3,000 innovations. This year's themes, "AI+" and smartly connected New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), focus on the digital management of cities, robotics, intelligent living, and low-altitude economy.

One of the event's highlights included nine prominent speakers who discussed how artificial intelligence is driving social transformation. Harry Shum, Chairman of the Board at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a foreign member of the National Academy of Engineering in the USA, emphasized the advancement of so-called embodied artificial intelligence in robots, predicting the emergence of robots that will learn, adapt, and collaborate in the real world.

Cedrik Neike, member of the board and CEO of Digital Industries at Siemens AG, underscored how AI accelerates a transition towards software-defined automation, enabling greater flexibility, efficiency, and sustainability across industries.

The expo featured 11 matchmaking events centered around AI, digital transformation, and capital financing, connecting major players such as Huawei and Baidu with 40 investment institutions. Remarkably, contracts totaling over 200 billion yuan (approximately $27.5 billion) were signed, with 120 billion yuan occurring during the event itself.

Critical ventures, such as Geely's smart manufacturing initiative, aim to bolster supply chains and support the "33618" strategy in Chongqing, which seeks to modernize the industrial framework and establish a national hub for advanced manufacturing. This initiative is designed to stimulate growth in sectors including NEVs, electronics, materials, food processing, textiles, and biomedicine.

The NEV pavilion welcomed 20 global automobile manufacturers, including Changan, Seres, and Tesla, supported by over 100 component suppliers and ecosystem partners, showcasing the latest advancements in intelligent driving, software-defined vehicles, and smart production.

The expo also served as a platform for debuting new technologies such as Changan's "SDA Intelligence" brand, the Chongqing Low-Altitude Smart Management Service platform, an open AI computing architecture, Sugon's AI Supercluster system, and the China NEV Challenge.

Initially held in 2018 and previously known as the Smart China Expo, the World Smart Industry Expo has established itself as a vital platform for digital innovation, bringing together business leaders, scientists, and policymakers to showcase groundbreaking intelligent technologies and foster global collaboration.
