Introducing the Unique Mino Ware Collection Inspired by Hokusai

Mino Ware Collection Inspired by Hokusai

On July 10, 2026, Kappa Bashi Maeda, a specialized store for Japanese tableware and knives located in Tokyo's Kappa Bashi Tool Street, is set to unveil a unique Mino ware collection inspired by the legendary ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai. This new collection is rooted in Hokusai's iconic Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, specifically featuring the widely recognized design of "The Great Wave off Kanagawa."

Kappa Bashi Maeda's owner, Jun Maeda, who is also a calligrapher, has created an intricate blend of Hokusai's powerful wave illustrations and the symbolic composition of Mount Fuji, reinterpreting these classical art pieces into a modern monochrome design suitable for contemporary dining environments. This special collection is exclusively made for Kappa Bashi Maeda, reflecting the craftsmanship of Mino ware and Jun's artistic sensibilities, creating an exceptional offering that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

The collection will be manufactured in Gifu Prefecture, renowned for its high-quality ceramics, and will include two practical plate sizes: a versatile 3.5-inch plate ideal for small side dishes and desserts, and a 6-inch plate suitable for a wide variety of meals including tempura, stews, and sashimi. The color options are thoughtfully selected, featuring both white and black bases, allowing for flexibility in table settings.

To enhance the uniqueness of the collection, each item will feature a representation of Mount Fuji and the phrase "Made In Japan" on the bottom, emphasizing its exclusivity. The thoughtful design pays attention to detail, merging traditional Japanese art with contemporary tableware, making each piece a significant addition to daily dining experiences while offering a glimpse into the allure of Japanese culture.

Starting from July 10, 2026, customers can purchase these exclusive items at Kappa Bashi Maeda located at 1-10-10 Matsugaya, Taito City, Tokyo, as well as through their official online shop at Kappa Bashi Maeda Online. Furthermore, the store offers free domestic shipping (excluding remote islands) on purchases over 16,000 yen, enhancing accessibility for customers nationwide.
