Kenko Mayo's FDF Plus Wins 29th Food Processing Award for Fighting Food Waste

Kenko Mayo's FDF Plus Series Receives Prestigious Award

On September 11, 2025, Kenko Mayo Co., Ltd., headquartered in Suginami, Tokyo, received the 29th Food Processing Award for their innovative FDF Plus series which boasts a commendable shelf-life of up to 90 days, significantly contributing to food waste reduction. The award ceremony took place at Dai-Ichi Hotel Tokyo in Shimbashi, attended by Kenko Mayo's representative, President Kunihito Shimamoto.

The Food Processing Award is organized by the Japan Food Newspaper Company and is determined through a rigorous selection process involving recommendations from prominent food wholesalers across the country and evaluations by a committee of industry representatives. This award acknowledges processed food products and ingredients that have positively impacted the vitality of the restaurant industry.

In 2025, a total of 11 companies, including Kenko Mayo, received awards, with certificates presented by President Naoshi Sugita of the Japan Food Newspaper Company during the ceremony. Following the awards, a celebratory party was held where each award-winning company showcased their products, offering explanations, samplings, and tastings to attendees.

At this celebratory event, Kenko Mayo showcased its long-standing commitment to creating innovative products. The company made history in 1977 by introducing the long-lasting, unopened refrigerated "Long Life Salad." The brand, known as Fashion Delica Foods (FDF), continues to hold a leading market share, offering a variety of salads such as potato, macaroni, egg, and burdock salads that cater to restaurants and bakeries.

FDF Plus represents an evolution of the original FDF salad, achieving a remarkable shelf-life of 90 days post-manufacturing. This extension has garnered praise for addressing long-standing issues in the food industry, particularly in the context of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at reducing food waste. With this accomplishment, the FDF Plus series meets diverse customer needs while helping solve shipping challenges associated with recent logistics issues.

Feedback collected from visitors at the booth indicated a strong interest in the versatility and user-friendly nature of the FDF Plus products, along with numerous inquiries about the technology behind the extended shelf-life.

The "FDF Plus" series includes:
  • - FDF Plus Potato Salad: Combines diced potatoes and mashed types with carrots and onions, creating a balanced and versatile flavor.
