Japan's 19th Scout Jamboree Set for Summer 2026 in Kainan

Major Educational Camp: 19th Japan Scout Jamboree

This coming summer, Japan will host its largest educational camp, the 19th Japan Scout Jamboree (19NSJ), in Kainan, Hiroshima. This significant event is scheduled to occur from August 4 to August 10, 2026, spanning six nights and seven days.

The Japan Scout Association, based in Suginami, Tokyo, is gearing up for this major gathering, expecting to welcome around 8,000 participants from both Japan and abroad. The event aims to provide a rich camping experience filled with natural activities and enriching programs that reflect the unique characteristics of the region. Beyond the adventure, it will serve as a platform for fostering camaraderie, enhancing international awareness, and encouraging discussions around global peace.

To show support for the Jamboree, Kainan has initiated a crowdfunding campaign based on the “furusato nozei” (hometown tax) system. Donations collected through this campaign will be utilized to aid various programs aimed at enhancing the Jamboree experience, improving local infrastructure, and fostering engagement between participants and the community. This approach symbolizes a collaborative effort between the Japan Scout Association and Kainan City.

The call for donations will open from October 14, 2025, to January 11, 2026. Interested individuals can easily participate through the project page on the Furusato Tax website: Support the 19th Japan Scout Jamboree. This crowdfunding initiative presents an excellent opportunity for supporters to choose projects they are passionate about while enjoying the benefits of the hometown tax system.

For those seeking further information on this initiative, they can reach out to the Kainan City Future Creation Division at 0847-89-3332 during business hours from 8:30 AM to 5:15 PM on weekdays.

Moreover, corporate entities can also support the Jamboree via a corporate version of the hometown tax. Companies interested in participating should contact the Kainan City Policy Planning Division at 0847-89-3351 during the same hours.

The Japan Scout Jamboree, primarily targeting middle and high school students, is a significant educational event held every four years. The upcoming 19th edition is notable as it will bring together participants from across the nation and around the world in person, marking an eight-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic that necessitated the decentralization of the last event.

This year’s Jamboree will feature a plethora of activities, engaging both local culture and pressing social issues. Through these experiences, scouts will not only acquire new skills and knowledge but will also create lifelong friendships, enhancing their global perspective.
