Italian Aerospace Exports to the U.S. Surge as Industry Leaders Gather in Seattle

Italian Aerospace Exports to the U.S. Surge

In a remarkable development, Italian aerospace exports to the United States experienced a nearly 8% rise in 2025, a growth trend that outpaced the overall U.S. aerospace import market by a staggering five times. This information, analyzed by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), highlights not only the success of Italian manufacturers in the aerospace sector but also a strengthening of supply chain connections with the U.S. industry.

According to data processed by the Trade Data Monitor, U.S. aerospace imports from Italy reached an impressive $1.71 billion, marking a growth of 7.94% from the previous year. In contrast, the total aerospace imports in the U.S. increased by only 1.53%, totaling $42.2 billion. This indicates a clear shift towards Italian suppliers, a trend driven by the demand for high-quality aircraft and helicopter components which surged by 23.27% year-over-year. In fact, this segment alone accounted for over 60% of Italy's aerospace exports to the U.S.

The performance of Italian aerospace exports is particularly notable against a backdrop of declining shares for other major European suppliers like France, Germany, and the UK. Italy's share of the U.S. aerospace import market climbed significantly to 4.05% in 2025, up from 3.30% in 2023, highlighting the competitive edge held by Italian manufacturers.

Geographically, the majority of Italy's aerospace exports are concentrated in two key U.S. states: Virginia and Texas. Collectively, these regions accounted for an impressive 53.69% of Italian aerospace exports last year. Virginia led the charge with imports totaling $514.1 million, which represented a remarkable 134.65% increase compared to 2024. Meanwhile, exports to Texas reached $403.7 million, reflecting a more modest increase of 13.56%.

A major catalyst for this growth is the participation of 21 Italian companies in the recent Aerospace Defense Supplier Summit (ADSS) held in Seattle from March 18-19. This event serves as a critical business-to-business platform focused on the aerospace and defense supply chain, enabling manufacturers to forge collaborative relationships and explore new opportunities. The Italian delegation was organized by ITA's Houston office and included notable firms such as A. Abete, ALA, and Zoppas Industries.

Additionally, three innovative startups—bitCorp, Oris Space, and Podium—were also present, showcasing the depth of talent emerging from Italy's aerospace sector. This strategic engagement at ADSS is emblematic of Italy's commitment to elevating its position within the global aerospace landscape, particularly considering that it ranks among the top ten producers in the world and is the fourth largest in Europe.

The Italian aerospace sector boasts an annual revenue exceeding €16 billion, with exports constituting more than 70% of production. The industrial ecosystem supports five global prime contractors paired with an extensive network of over 300 small and medium-sized enterprises.

As Italy continues to strengthen its foothold in the U.S. aerospace market, it will be interesting to observe how this dynamic evolves, particularly in the face of increasing competition from other global suppliers. The upcoming years are poised to be crucial for Italian manufacturers as they leverage partnerships, technological advancements, and market demand to further expand their presence in the United States and beyond.
