On September 19, 2025, Birla Carbon, a prominent manufacturer and supplier in the carbon materials industry, announced its highly anticipated 13th annual Sustainability Report, titled 'Connected to a Greener Future'. This report delineates the company's ongoing commitment to sustainability, emphasizing their strategic approach known as 'Sharing the Future'. One of the standout features of the report is Birla Carbon's ambitious roadmap towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. During the fiscal year 2024-25, the company reported the lowest Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) in its history. Notably, their facilities in Egypt and Italy achieved nearly 1,500 days without any recorded incidents, while those in Spain and Patalganga, India, surpassed the impressive benchmark of 2,000 safe days.

Global Expansion Details

Birla Carbon's strategic expansion plans include a post-treatment plant in Patalganga, India, which commenced operations in October 2024, producing specialty grades for the coatings and inks industries. Additional projects in Hungary, India, and Thailand are underway, enhancing the company’s capacity and ability to meet the demands of regional and international clients.

Environmental Commitment

In a significant move towards sustainability, Birla Carbon is proud to report that all its manufacturing plants utilize recycled process water or harvested rainwater in their operations. In the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2025, the company achieved an 11% reduction in CO₂ equivalent emissions linked to maritime transport compared to the previous fiscal quarter.

Awards and Recognitions

Birla Carbon's commitment to environmental excellence has not gone unnoticed. The company received the Leader in Environment and Energy Award for its seawater treatment project in Franklin, Louisiana, which has successfully reduced SOx and NOx emissions by more than 90%. Additionally, they earned 13 Gold Safety Certificates from the International Carbon Black Association, outclassing six other member companies.

Manufacturing Excellence

All 16 of Birla Carbon's manufacturing plants have obtained ISCC Plus certification, ensuring that their products meet high sustainability standards. Moreover, every manufacturing facility is certified under IATF 16949, reflecting excellence in automotive quality management, product sustainability, and operational efficiency.
