Nexus Health Systems Appoints Dr. Jason James as Chief Medical Officer
Nexus Health Systems has announced a significant leadership transition by appointing Dr. Jason James as the new Chief Medical Officer (CMO). This move is set to reinforce the organization's commitment to providing comprehensive and integrated care, particularly for underserved pediatric populations.
A Leader in Pediatric Care
Dr. Jason James will spearhead the clinical strategy and operations across Nexus' network of hospitals and residential treatment centers. His primary focus will be on transforming the organization’s approach to treating pediatric patients who require specialized care due to complex health needs. This change comes as part of Nexus Health's ongoing mission to change lives through effective treatment models that prioritize holistic care.
Erin Cassidy, the recently appointed Chief Executive Officer, expressed confidence in Dr. James's capabilities, highlighting his instrumental role in enhancing pediatric behavioral programs and expanding whole-person care access. She stated, "Dr. James reflects our longstanding values of clinical rigor, compassionate care, and a passionate approach towards innovation and collaboration in pediatric health."
Achievements and Philosophy
In his previous three years at Nexus, Dr. James has overseen an interdisciplinary team that delivers evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents facing complex psychiatric and behavioral challenges. Under his guidance, programs such as New Directions and True North have gained national recognition for their integrated, values-based care. These initiatives combine psychiatric expertise, medical supervision, and therapeutic interventions within trauma-informed environments that promote safety and healing.
Dr. James emphasizes the urgent need for specialized inpatient programs due to the rising prevalence of neurodevelopmental disorders like autism, and complex psychiatric disorders among youth. He remarked, "Families nationwide are struggling to secure integrated care for children with multifaceted behavioral and psychiatric challenges, particularly when multiple medical or developmental issues coexist. Our programs were designed to bridge this gap."
Commitment to Interdisciplinary Care
As CMO, Dr. James aims to cultivate an environment of clinical excellence and coordinated care across various specialties. He noted, "True collaboration across disciplines is a target many healthcare organizations aim for, but at Nexus, it's ingrained in our culture and operational practices."
Before joining Nexus Health Systems, Dr. James spent over ten years at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, where he established a leading program for children with medically complex conditions. His extensive experience extends across emergency departments, inpatient settings, and the juvenile justice system, enabling him to work at various levels of outpatient care.
Educationally, Dr. James is well-prepared for this new role. He earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine, completed a general psychiatry residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and pursued an advanced specialization in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Texas at Houston Medical School. He also served as Chief Resident during his fellowship.
Vision for the Future
Looking forward, Dr. James envisions expanding the reach and impact of Nexus Health Systems through the provision of integrated care solutions tailored for children with specialized needs. "As the demand for comprehensive, integrated care rises, our objective is to ensure that more patients can access the transformative services Nexus offers. Our work is grounded in the belief that no child is too complicated for effective care, and we will continue to innovate in our approach to treatment," he stated.
