Launch of the 20th 'Sumitomo Life Childcare Project'

Sumitomo Life Insurance Company (President: Yukitaka Takada) has commenced applications for the 20th edition of the 'Sumitomo Life Childcare Project to Strengthen the Future' on July 6. This initiative, supported by Japan's Ministry of Education and the Agency for Children and Families, focuses on creating a nurturing environment for childcare and involves two main public offerings: awards for childcare support activities and grants for female researchers.

Established in 2007, this project aims to support healthier childcare and a brighter future for communities through recognition and encouragement of local initiatives. The goal is to contribute positively to customers’ community well-being and create a sustainable society that values children’s futures.

Project Overview

1. Awards and Support Eligibility
- Childcare Support Activities Recognition: Individuals or groups working to enhance local childcare environments are eligible. The awards include:
- Sumitomo Future Award and Cabinet Office Minister's Award for one group, including a certificate, trophy, and a cash prize of ¥1 million.
- Sumitomo Future Award and Minister of Education Award for one group, also with a certificate, trophy, and ¥1 million prize.
- Approximately ten Sumitomo Future Awards with trophies and a ¥500,000 prize each.

- Support for Female Researchers: Female researchers striving to balance parenting with their studies in the fields of humanities and social sciences can apply for:
- Sumitomo Women Researchers Encouragement Award, with about ten awards available, offering up to ¥1 million per year for two years, scheduled from April 2027 to March 2029.

2. Application Period
- The application window is open from July 6 to September 7.

3. Selection Process
- After an initial selection by the project secretariat, the 'Sumitomo Life Childcare Project' selection committee will review the entries to determine the awardees.

4. Announcement of Awardees
- The award ceremony is planned for March 2027, with details published on the project’s website.
