Calbee Teams Up with Liquid to Enhance User Authentication with JPKI

Calbee and Liquid Join Forces for Enhanced User Authentication

In the ever-evolving world of technology and digital identity management, Calbee Inc. has made a significant leap by partnering with Liquid, a subsidiary of the ELEMENTS Group. This collaboration aims to introduce a user-friendly public personal identification system known as the IC Omakase Pack, utilizing Japan's official Personal Identification System (JPKI) through Liquid's LIQUID eKYC service.

Understanding the Technology

Calbee, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has embraced blockchain technology to manage intellectual property through its platform called "Karureto." This platform not only enables the secure management of intellectual property rights in fan-created works but also leverages decentralized IDs (DIDs) that ensure traceability and authenticity of ownership records.

The recently integrated public identification process allows users to verify their identities effortlessly. With the LIQUID eKYC's IC Omakase Pack, users can simply scan their My Number Card’s IC chip using their smartphones, streamlining the identification process significantly. By automating the selection of the most effective channel based on the user's device, the system aims to minimize dropout rates during verification.

The Role of LIQUID eKYC

LIQUID eKYC has consistently maintained its position as a leader in the eKYC market for six consecutive years, providing services essential for online contracting and account registrations. The platform employs various methods for identity verification, including optical scanning of personal identification documents like driver’s licenses and My Number Cards, or in real-time face verification through selfies, ensuring a robust and comprehensive solution. Furthermore, it is well-equipped to handle age verifications for student discounts and other age-specific services.

Since the launch, LIQUID eKYC has facilitated approximately 130 million identity verifications for around 600 companies, showcasing its immense reach and reliability in the identity management sector.

Karureto’s Innovative IP Management

Karureto, built on the principles of decentralized identity and blockchain technology, provides a secure, immutable environment for recording and sharing intellectual property management data as verifiable credentials. This includes not only ownership records but also the transfer and use history of creative works. By integrating JPKI with DIDs, the platform assures users of highly reliable rights certification and management.

The schema design compliant with W3C standards enables interoperability with external systems and smart contracts, facilitating broader use of intellectual property across company divisions and geographical barriers. It aims to enhance the utility of intellectual property in a global context.

Liquid's Vision and Future

Liquid is driven by a vision to create a world where every individual can seamlessly and securely access various services. By integrating biometric authentication into its framework, the company aspires to revolutionize how personal identification is perceived, ensuring a more secure and convenient user experience. The shift towards online identity verification across multiple sectors—including finance, telecommunications, and e-commerce—demands an innovative approach that Liquid is keen to provide.

Established in December 2018 and led by CEO Takaki Hasegawa, Liquid is strategically located in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. Its extensive research into biometrics and machine learning lays the groundwork for upcoming advancements in identification solutions.

In conclusion, the partnership between Calbee and Liquid marks a significant step in revolutionizing user identification processes. By harnessing cutting-edge technology like blockchain and JPKI, they promise to deliver a streamlined and secure approach to personal authentication, effectively enriching digital interactions in today's fast-paced world.
