PLP and Lightera Launch Innovative Compatibility Program to Enhance FTTx Networks

PLP and Lightera Unveil a Revolutionary Compatibility Program

In an exciting development for the telecommunications industry, Preformed Line Products (PLP) and Lightera have announced a groundbreaking compatibility program designed to enhance the deployment of Fiber To The X (FTTx) networks. This strategic collaboration aligns PLP's advanced drop closures with Lightera's innovative rollable ribbon fiber optic cables, redefining the standards for fiber network design and deployment.

Transforming Fiber Networks

The newly launched compatibility program integrates PLP’s COYOTE® STP Pro Series closures—specifically the XL and L models—with Lightera's cutting-edge DuctSaver® and AccuRoll® rollable ribbon cables. By enabling the use of high-density cables, comprising 144 to 288 fibers, in compact closures, this initiative significantly streamlines the design and installation processes for last-mile deployments.

Mark Boxer, Technical Manager of Solutions and Applications Engineering at Lightera, emphasized the innovation behind this collaboration, stating, "Rollable ribbon cable technology was originally developed for high-density applications such as data centers. Now, we're taking that same high-efficiency design and adapting it for FTTx networks. This opens up new possibilities for compact and cost-effective fiber installations."

Cost-Effective and Efficient

One notable advantage of the compatibility program is the potential reduction in labor and material costs associated with fiber installation. By utilizing smaller handholes with PLP's closures, alongside Lightera’s rollable ribbon technologies, network builders can achieve a 30% reduction in costs related to the distribution portion of the network when compared to traditional methods that typically require larger dome-style closures.

Matt Becker, Director of North America Communications Markets at PLP, highlighted the urgent need for more versatile deployment options in light of the increasing demand for fiber connectivity. "As the demand for fiber continues to grow, network designers need smarter, more flexible deployment options. This program provides our customers with enhanced design agility, facilitating the delivery of high fiber counts in smaller, more efficient packages, thus reducing overall build costs without compromising performance."

Showcase at Fiber Connect 2025

This innovative solution is set to be showcased at the upcoming Fiber Connect 2025 event in Nashville, scheduled for June 1-4. The partnership between PLP and Lightera not only exemplifies technological advancement but also reflects a commitment to meet the ever-growing demands of the telecommunications sector.

PLP is recognized for protecting critical connections globally, offering precision-engineered solutions aimed at ensuring stronger and more reliable networks. With operations in over 20 countries, PLP is committed to delivering high-quality products and unmatched service to customers around the world.

Lightera, a leader in optical fiber and connectivity innovations, focuses on driving advancements in communication networks, data centers, and specialty photonics applications. The company, which operates under the Furukawa Electric Group, excels in providing high-performance solutions that foster faster, more reliable, and sustainable connections across various markets including telecommunications, data centers, and utilities.

With the introduction of this compatibility program, both companies are paving the way for smarter and more efficient fiber network deployments, ideally positioning themselves as leaders in the ever-evolving landscape of telecommunications.
