Arevon Energy Begins Operations at Peregrine Energy Storage Project
Arevon Energy, Inc., a prominent American energy developer, has recently celebrated the commencement of commercial operations at its new
Peregrine Energy Storage Project located in San Diego, California. This groundbreaking facility, boasting a capacity of 200 megawatts (MW) and 400 megawatt-hours (MWh), is an important addition to the region’s energy landscape and represents Arevon's fifth utility-scale energy storage site in the state.
The project, which required an investment of $300 million, will not only provide much-needed support to California’s renewable energy goals but will also significantly contribute to local employment, engaging over 90 full-time workers during its construction phase. Additionally, the project is projected to yield long-term property tax benefits exceeding $28 million over its operational lifetime.
One of the key features of the Peregrine Energy Storage Project is its use of advanced lithium iron phosphate batteries which are renowned for their safety and efficiency. Arevon prioritizes operational safety and boasts a record of zero thermal or safety incidents across its energy storage sites since 2021. This commitment to safety and community assurance is evident in every phase of the project’s lifecycle.
Kevin Smith, CEO of Arevon, stated, “The successful completion of the Peregrine Energy Storage Project is a testament to the collaborative efforts among stakeholders and the local community, all aimed at supporting California’s renewable energy ambitions.” This project underscores Arevon's dedication to enhancing energy storage systems, which are critical for ensuring a stable and reliable energy grid.
Energy storage technologies like those being deployed at Peregrine play a significant role in stabilizing grid efficiency. By storing electricity during low demand and discharging it when demand peaks, the facility can cater to the electricity needs of approximately 200,000 homes for two hours per day. This helps mitigate the risk of brownouts or blackouts, especially during high-usage periods, while also assisting in regulating peak electricity prices.
As a leader in the renewable energy sector, Arevon has established itself with more than 3.2 gigawatts of operational capacity and has an additional 800 MW under construction across California. The company has been active in various initiatives, recently announcing several operational milestones, including new projects in solar-plus-storage systems which received commendations within the energy industry.
The development of the Peregrine Energy Storage Project complements Arevon’s strategies for energy independence, solidifying its role in empowering the American energy future. The company has owned and operated over 4.7 gigawatts of combined solar and energy storage projects across 17 states, investing more than $9.6 billion in renewable energy developments.
With continued investments in renewable projects, Arevon not only bolsters local economies but also champions the progress of U.S.-manufactured energy solutions. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, Arevon remains at the forefront, actively shaping a sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure for the future.
