Kuradashi's Social Contribution Internship Program
In a bid to inspire future leaders and promote social good, Kuradashi, a company based in Shinagawa, Tokyo, announced the commencement of applications for its annual internship program, the 'Kuradashi Challenge', starting from April 20. This initiative invites university and graduate students to participate in a nationwide social contribution-focused internship set to take place across six locations in Japan starting June 2026.
Kuradashi champions the mission of nurturing a fruitful future through ethical business practices, aiming to become Japan's leading impact enterprise group. To this end, they focus on transforming pressing social issues into value, ensuring measurable impacts on societal, environmental, and economic fronts.
The 'Kuradashi Challenge' offers students hands-on experiences in addressing food waste and regional revitalization, allowing them to visit local farms and communities to aid in crop harvesting and foster exchanges with local residents. Through this program, Kuradashi aims to enhance community engagement, amplify local attractions, and provide experiential learning opportunities for students.
Additionally, the costs related to travel, accommodation, and meals are covered by the Kuradashi Fund, which supports various social contribution activities, including local revitalization projects. The fund stems from Kuradashi’s commitment to its social responsibilities and has facilitated 65 separate initiatives by April 2026.
The unique aspect of this year's program is the introduction of a two-visit approach to each region. By creating opportunities for students to engage more deeply with local communities over two visits, Kuradashi aims to strengthen connections and foster enduring relationships between students and local governments beyond the internship's duration, thus moving towards a sustainable model of community involvement.
This program not only targets the reduction of food waste from unharvested crops but also seeks to empower the next generation to drive local revitalization, making it a pivotal element of Kuradashi's community-oriented philosophy.
As part of the program, participants will be engaged in various agricultural activities, such as:
- - Niigata: Cucumber bagging and product processing using non-standard goods.
- - Okinawa: Assisting with pineapple harvesting and other vegetable packaging tasks.
- - Kyoto: Participating in planting and harvesting sweet corn and other crops.
- - Hokkaido: Cherry picking and vineyard work.
- - Shimane: Pear picking and management activities.
- - Wakayama: Engaging in squid fishing activities and local events.
Each of these experiences is designed not only to enhance agricultural knowledge but also to build lasting relationships amongst participants and their communities, promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration among municipalities.
In conclusion, Kuradashi aims to cultivate a network that thrives on ongoing interactions among students, local authorities, and other stakeholders. This immersive experience seeks to instill deeper understanding and engagement towards regional issues, facilitating a framework for sustained collaboration post-program.
