Sungrow Unveils Innovative PowerTitan 3.0 Energy Storage System at PV ESS Summit in Madrid
Sungrow Launches PowerTitan 3.0
In a significant move for the renewable energy sector, Sungrow, a global leader in photovoltaic inverters and energy storage systems (ESS), introduced its latest innovation, the PowerTitan 3.0, during the PV ESS Summit held in Madrid. This event gathered over 300 partners and industry experts, including representatives from SolarPower Europe, TÜV, and DEKRA, to discuss emerging technologies and market trends that are pivotal for the energy transition.
The Role of BESS in Energy Transition
The PowerTitan 3.0 is designed as an industrial-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), which is essential for integrating renewable energy into the electrical grid. According to SolarPower Europe, the cumulative photovoltaic capacity in the EU reached 406 GW by the end of 2025, highlighting the urgent need for flexible electricity demand management.
With projected annual growth of 30% in BESS deployment until 2030, exceeding 412 GWh, this new offering by Sungrow positions the company to meet the increasing demands for energy flexibility.
Overview of PowerTitan 3.0
The PowerTitan 3.0 boasts an impressive configuration within a 20-foot container, integrating 1.78 MW of power and 7.14 MWh of battery capacity, enabling a 4-hour energy supply cycle that reaches 7.2 MW/28.5 MWh. Constructed with battery cells stacked over 600 Ah, it ensures both safety and efficiency with an overall system round-trip efficiency (RTE) of 92%.
The system is designed for rapid deployment, allowing a 1 GWh project to be operational in as little as 12 days. This capability, coupled with operational resilience even at temperatures as low as -40°C, makes it suitable for deployment in various climates, including cold regions and coastal areas.
Innovative DC-Coupled Solution
Alongside the PowerTitan 3.0, Sungrow introduced a unique single-platform design for DC-coupled photovoltaic-ESS solutions. This integration features a modular inverter system with a dedicated energy storage interface, maximizing discharge durations up to 8 hours while offering cost-effective system optimization. Sungrow’s DC-coupled solution has already seen implementation in over 90 projects across more than 10 countries.
Grid-Forming Technology's Impact
The technological advancements in grid-forming capabilities are crucial for enhancing the resilience and stability of electrical systems. During the summit, Dr. Henry Liu, Sungrow’s Head of Grid Solutions, emphasized the importance of these capabilities in accommodating high renewable energy content in the electrical grid while complying with evolving EU standards. Notably, these functionalities have been validated in landmark projects, including the 7.8 GWh energy storage system in Saudi Arabia.
Project Contracts and Future Commitment
During the summit, Sungrow successfully signed a contract with Enlight to supply a 100 MW / 220 MWh BESS. This project aims to amplify grid flexibility while optimizing renewable energy utilization, with deliveries expected by the second quarter of 2026.
Sungrow's European Presence
Since establishing operations in Europe in 2011, Sungrow has expanded to 25 local offices, two R&D centers, and numerous service points across the continent. Recent flagship projects encompass one of the largest BESS installations in continental Europe in Belgium (800 MWh) and a photovoltaic initiative in the north of Finland (70 MW).
Conclusion
With its commitment to strengthening Europe’s energy infrastructure, demonstrated through innovations like the PowerTitan 3.0, Sungrow is poised to support and accelerate the region’s transition to a sustainable, renewable energy future. Over 29 years in operation, Sungrow continues to lead the charge in sustainable power solutions, reaffirming its position as one of the most bankable companies in this field.
