Hexagon Launches the WORKNC Technology Contest 2026
Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has announced the inaugural
WORKNC加工技術コンテスト2026, a participatory technical contest aimed at users of its CAM software tailored for mold processing. This new initiative is designed to highlight the exceptional skills and ingenuity found in Japan’s mold processing industry.
Japan's mold processing sector is renowned for its advanced techniques and know-how, which play a crucial role in supporting global quality standards. However, opportunities for sharing and visualizing best practices across the industry have been limited. Hexagon believes that the technical prowess and creativity cultivated by manufacturers are fundamental to enhancing manufacturing quality.
A Focus on Process Over Product
Unlike traditional contests that primarily evaluate the finished product, the WORKNC contest emphasizes the techniques and processes employed to achieve high-quality results. Participants must submit not only their completed mold samples but also documentation detailing their workflow settings, processing directives, and any special considerations taken during their programming within the WORKNC environment.
The entries will be assessed by Hexagon's WORKNC engineering team, who will evaluate them comprehensively across multiple criteria. The competition will consist of two categories, with a total of six prizes distributed, recognizing the top three submissions in each category.
Prizes and Industry Exposure
Winners of the contest will receive various prizes, including exemption from the annual maintenance fee for WORKNC (for one license for one year). They will also get the opportunity to showcase their work at Hexagon's booth during the
JIMTOF 2026, one of the largest international machine tool exhibitions, scheduled to be held at Tokyo Big Sight in October 2026. This platform provides participants a unique chance to present their mold processing technologies to both domestic and international audiences.
Participants can choose to work on one or both of the specified tasks, further promoting knowledge sharing and interaction among users in the mold processing field.
Hexagon's GM of Manufacturing Software Division, Tsuneyuki Mizowaki, commented on this initiative, stating, “Recently, the environment surrounding the mold industry has changed significantly, and the importance of sharing techniques and fostering connections has become paramount. We aim to create opportunities that not only allow us to provide software but also help energize the entire mold industry.” Mizowaki emphasized that the awards ceremony, which will take place at the JIMTOF exhibition, offers a valuable opportunity for users to network and exchange information.
Participation and Deadlines
The application deadline for the contest is set for
April 17, 2026, and is open exclusively to users with an active WORKNC maintenance contract who are utilizing version 2023.3 or higher. The evaluation process will conclude by September 2026, with the results announced at the JIMTOF event at Hexagon's booth.
