BE OPEN Participates in Regional Forum on Sustainable Development 2025 at the UN

BE OPEN at the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development 2025

On April 2-3, 2025, BE OPEN made its mark at the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development 2025, held at the United Nations offices in Geneva. This significant event centered on the theme: "Advancing Sustainable, Inclusive, Science- and Evidence-based Solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its SDGs." The forum assembled a diverse group of stakeholders, including UN governments, international organizations, civil society, and youth, to explore methods for accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the High-level Policy Segment, esteemed leaders such as Amina J. Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General, and Tatiana Molcean, UNECE Executive Secretary, addressed the attendees. A prominent message from these UN leaders emphasized the urgency for more robust commitments and actions to meet the sustainable development agenda.

However, the journey toward accomplishing these goals is fraught with challenges. Political unrest, economic instability, ongoing conflicts, and climate crises have hampered efforts within the UNECE region. The latest report from UNECE highlights that only 17% of the 125 measurable targets are projected to be reached by the 2030 deadline, posing a significant call-to-action for all involved.

This theme resonates deeply with BE OPEN, particularly as it aligns with the foundation's ongoing international student competition, Designing Futures 2050. This initiative is dedicated to fostering innovative solutions among younger generations, aiming to seamlessly integrate sustainability principles into future practices and ambitions of rising professionals.

Elena Baturina, Founder of BE OPEN, emphasized the program's mission: "Our sustainability initiatives echo the objectives of raising awareness about the SDGs and the pressing need for action among students. We are committed to engaging them in redefining action-oriented strategies for the SDGs in light of contemporary realities."

Moreover, BE OPEN endeavors to inspire young people to embrace the agenda for 2050 and beyond, equipped with knowledge, skills, and a profound sense of responsibility. The foundation continuously supports and recognizes youth-driven solutions that contribute to systemic transformation and create improved conditions for environmental and societal wellbeing. This aligns with BE OPEN's overarching goal to cultivate a generation capable of tackling inequalities and advancing a prosperous planet for all.

As we move forward, BE OPEN remains a steadfast partner in bolstering the efforts necessary to transform sustainability commitments from mere words into tangible actions that change lives and environments for the better. The upcoming challenges are considerable, but with united efforts and innovative thinking, the dream of a sustainable future can become a reality.
