Education Cannot Wait Launches $2 Million Emergency Grant for Flood-Affected Children in Pakistan

Education Cannot Wait Announces a $2 Million Emergency Grant for Flood-Affected Children in Pakistan

On November 8, 2025, Education Cannot Wait (ECW), the global fund dedicated to education in emergencies, revealed the launch of a $2 million emergency grant designed to address the urgent educational needs of children impacted by the devastating monsoon floods in Pakistan. This significant financial support is set to benefit approximately 34,483 students through a collaborative initiative led by the Rural Support Programmes Network (RSPN) and other local organizations.

The floods in Pakistan have left a devastating mark, with reports indicating that over 367,000 school-aged children in the affected districts are currently without access to education. More than 1,800 schools have suffered damages, disrupting the learning experience for countless children. The emergency grant by ECW is a targeted response to these alarming figures, aiming to restore educational access and rebuild the affected systems.

The twelve-month grant will be executed through RSPN in partnership with various national and local agencies, including the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) and Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA). Bashir Anjum, the CEO of RSPN, emphasized the organization's commitment to ensuring that every child—especially girls, internally displaced persons, and children with disabilities—receives safe, non-discriminatory, and high-quality education. He stated, “Through this partnership, we aim to help communities in these regions rebuild resilient education systems, restore hope, and support children in returning to learning in a safe and caring environment.”

The financial aid will focus not only on repairing damaged schools but also on constructing temporary learning spaces, providing educational materials that promote gender equality, and ensuring the restoration of water and sanitation services. These initiatives will align with the Pakistani Humanitarian Response Plan, further complementing ongoing preventative measures implemented by ECW prior to the flooding.

Education Cannot Wait operates as a multi-stakeholder initiative that collaborates closely with national governments, public and private donors, UN agencies, and civil society organizations. The organization's approach is designed to enhance the effectiveness and immediacy of aid delivery, targeting those in the most urgent need. ECW has called on both public and private donors to increase their support to reach an even greater number of vulnerable children and youth.

In summary, this $2 million emergency grant by Education Cannot Wait significantly highlights the urgent need for educational support in Pakistan following the calamities caused by monsoon floods. Together with local initiatives, ECW aims to bring educational opportunities back to those profoundly affected by the disaster, transforming their challenges into opportunities for growth and rebuilding futures.
