Experience Rice Farming Together with Your Family in Saitama's Iwatsuki Area

Discover Rice Farming Together

Families in Japan will have a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in rice farming, learning directly from producers in the Iwatsuki area of Saitama. On May 30, 2026, the Palsystem Saitama Cooperative will host an engaging rice planting experience at the '交流田んぼ' (Communication Rice Field) from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This event will be held in collaboration with the South Saitama Direct Producers Network, allowing approximately 15 families to participate in this hands-on experience.

From Planting to Harvesting

The rice farming experience will begin with planting, allowing participants to get their feet wet in the rice fields. Under the guidance of seasoned producers, families will plant seedlings of the brand rice '彩のきずな' (Ayano Kizuna) one by one. This immersive experience includes twice-weekly visits for weeding, fostering a deep understanding of the farming process without relying on chemical pesticides.

Moreover, interested families will have the option to take some planted rice seedlings home in buckets, enabling them to observe growth in their own households. An exclusive open chat group will facilitate discussions among members about the progress of their plants, creating a sense of community.

Learning Through Nature

The rice fields are designed to be ecological havens, hosting an array of wildlife. During weeding sessions, families will observe the diverse creatures living in the fields, experiencing firsthand the vibrant ecosystem that supports the growth of rice. Until the harvest, which will take place in September, producers from the South Saitama network will oversee the rice cultivation.

Once the rice has been harvested, the experience doesn't end there. Participants can enjoy a rice ball making experience using the harvested rice, bringing the entire journey from field to table full circle. This annual event is not just about agriculture but about fostering a deeper understanding of food production among families.
