Asoboccha: A New Inclusive Playground in Yukuhashi City
On March 20, an exciting new indoor playground named Asoboccha opened its doors in Yukuhashi City, Fukuoka Prefecture, thanks to the design and construction efforts of Senba Co., Ltd. Located on the third floor of the Yumetown Minami-Yukuhashi shopping complex, this facility is one of the largest indoor play areas in the region, providing a space where kids can play, regardless of weather conditions.
The playground is designed to be inclusive, allowing children ages 0 to 12 to enjoy various activities together, regardless of their abilities or developmental stages. This long-awaited project addresses a pressing community need; local surveys indicated that a lack of play areas for children had been a significant concern for years. To resolve this issue, the city advocated for the creation of a safe, indoor environment where children could freely explore and engage in play.
Inclusive Play for All
Asoboccha is a space where every child can play safely and happily. The design integrates the concept of inclusivity, promoting a nurturing environment where all children can thrive together. The playground is divided into zones tailored to different age groups and abilities:
- - Infants (0-2 years): Focus on developing social skills and senses through engaging equipment.
- - Preschoolers (3-6 years): Learning through exploration, trial-and-error activities foster personal growth.
- - Older Children (6-12 years): Tools for enhancing imagination and physical abilities are provided, ensuring that all children can engage in play suitable for their development stages.
The layout prevents potential conflicts among different age groups while ensuring a harmonious play experience for everyone. Additionally, interactive digital content is available, designed for accessibility to children in wheelchairs, alongside cozy spaces where kids with varying sensory needs can find comfort. Areas for creative activities, like drawing and crafting, complement physical play equipment, making it a well-rounded environment suitable for all children.
Unique Design Inspired by Yukuhashi's Heritage
The design of Asoboccha embraces Yukuhashi’s natural beauty and cultural history. The concept, titled
“Yukuto! Yukuhashi – A Journey of Creation and Exploration”, comprises an impressive 1,470 square meters of imaginative space. This innovative environment features a ball pit that evokes the nearby coastline, playground equipment inspired by local express trains, and a rotating play structure designed to resemble the city's symbolic cosmos flower. These elements collectively reflect Yukuhashi's charms, resulting in a playground that is not only fun but also deeply rooted in local culture.
Senba aims to continue its commitment to ethical design by participating in community co-creation projects, ensuring that spaces are accessible and comfortable for all individuals.
