A New Chapter in Family Entertainment
The city of Kobe is about to witness an exceptional event designed to unite families with children of all abilities. On January 17, 2025, the
Family Concert will be held at the Shinkaichi Art Plaza, introducing a welcoming space for children with physical and medical needs, their siblings, and families. Organized by
COCOLON, an initiative operated by the non-profit organization EPO, the concert aims to promote joy, learning, and connection among families facing unique challenges.
A Challenge for Families
A 2019 survey conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare revealed that 65.3% of families living with medically complex children find it extremely difficult to go out with their child. This highlights the pressing issue many families face, including the accessibility of facilities that accommodate their needs, such as changing areas and electrical outlets for medical devices. Many families feel hindered by the limited support available for outings.
In response to these challenges, COCOLON is committed to creating opportunities where families with medically fragile children can engage in events that not only entertain but also foster connection among parents and enhance the joy of children.
A Family Concert For Everyone
The upcoming Family Concert will create an inclusive atmosphere where children with disabilities, their siblings, and families can enjoy live music together without any reservations. In previous years, a similar concert held in Tokyo welcomed 38 families, totaling 162 participants, emphasizing its growing popularity and importance within the community.
Designed to be accommodating, the concert venue will feature a comfortable layout that allows for both relaxation and enjoyment. Attendees can lie down or sit on mats, ensuring that even children who need to rest can enjoy the music up close. Wheelchair access and spaces for buggies are also prioritized, allowing everyone to experience the joy of being together at a concert.
High-Quality Musical Experience
The concert will showcase a performance by the
Oto no Nakama-tachi, a talented group of musicians particularly focused on children's music. Their repertoire will include beloved children's songs alongside classical pieces that feature various instruments. The concert is structured to allow for audience participation, a unique element that distinguishes it from typical performances. Families may have the opportunity to join performers on stage, enhancing their experience and encouraging engagement with the music.
The last concert included a segment where selected families participated in a performance, making the event unforgettable. This interactive approach not only creates memorable experiences but also reinforces the concert's mission to foster inclusivity and joy.
