Yamatane Corp. Teams Up with Shimizu Corporation for Echujima Development Project

Yamatane Corporation, headquartered in Koto City, Tokyo, has officially appointed Shimizu Corporation as the planning partner for the highly-anticipated Echujima Development Project (Echujima PJ). This partnership aims to facilitate governmental discussions, urban planning procedures, and enhance business development strategies.

Background of the Project

Yamatane announced its Grand Vision for the Echujima Development back in May 2025. The project is centered around the Echujima 1-chome area where the company is based, setting a target to choose development partners, primarily developers, by March 2026. However, the increasing construction costs and inflation have prompted many redevelopment projects to reassess their timelines and plans.

In light of these challenges, Yamatane decided that instead of rushing to select a collaborative developer, a more strategic approach would be to focus on advancing governmental discussions and urban planning collaborations first. This would ultimately lead to higher value development and enhance the overall corporate value of Yamatane.

To reflect this new approach, the roles of development partners have been redefined. They will now consist of a ‘planning partner’ to assist in urban planning discussions and a separate ‘implementation partner’ for active project development.

Selection Process

Yamatane reached out to several top-tier general contractors and design firms known for their track records in major development projects. The proposals were carefully evaluated based on predetermined criteria, with Shimizu Corporation receiving the highest score and thus being selected for this crucial role.

Support from Shimizu Corporation

Shimizu Corporation will provide support in the following areas:
1. Assistance in governmental discussions and urban planning.
2. Development support for the basic plan of the redevelopment.
3. Preparation of materials for community development preparation meetings.
4. Assistance with all other matters related to the realization of the redevelopment plan.

Future Plans

Moving forward, Yamatane and Shimizu will collaborate closely to facilitate governmental meetings and urban planning discussions. They also plan to engage with local residents to promote clear communication and refine the development proposals. At the right moment, Yamatane will select an implementation partner, with the goal of publishing a business plan aligned with the Grand Vision by the fiscal year 2028, as outlined previously.
