Omni Family Institute Teams Up with Becky Haas to Advance Trauma-Informed Care Training Across the Nation

Expanding Trauma-Informed Care

In a significant step towards improving community health and resilience, the Omni Family Institute has announced a transformative partnership with Becky Haas, a celebrated expert in trauma-informed care. This collaboration seeks to broaden access to practical resources and training designed to help professionals effectively support those affected by trauma, particularly within child welfare systems.

Research has consistently shown that experiences of trauma, especially during childhood, can have long-lasting effects on an individual’s well-being. Defined as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), these traumas often lead to challenges in health and social outcomes. Conversely, Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) can mitigate these adverse effects, fostering resilience through supportive relationships and environments. Renowned trauma specialist Dr. Bruce Perry emphasizes that one’s history of connectedness is a more reliable predictor of health than experiences of adversity, highlighting the importance of community and relational support.

Becky Haas brings over a decade of experience translating trauma research into actionable training. As a dynamic trainer and organizational coach, her curriculum comprises a wide range of sector-specific professional development courses that are being implemented nationwide. Notably, her workshops are integral to the training for law enforcement through the Virtual Academy, ensuring that those on the front lines are equipped with strategies to understand and respond to trauma effectively.

In 2024, Melinda (Mindy) Kiser, the President and Executive Director of Omni Family Institute, was inspired by Haas's presentation on creating trauma-informed communities. Recognizing the alignment with the institute’s mission, Kiser pursued a formal partnership to expand Haas’s foundational training offerings. Such courses include the “Basics of Trauma,” “ACEs,” “Resilience,” and “Using a Trauma-Informed Approach.”

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Becky Haas, a powerhouse in trauma-informed care,” Kiser remarked. “This partnership enhances our capacity to provide communities with evidence-based tools and knowledge, ultimately making a significant difference in the lives of children and families.”

Becky Haas, known for her infectious enthusiasm, expressed her excitement about this collaboration. “Trauma is often the root cause of the various challenges families and communities encounter,” she noted. “With empirical research backing new tools for trauma survivors, we are now in a position to not just assist in healing but empower individuals to thrive. I am delighted to work with the Omni Family Institute in spreading this vital message.”
