SeRo Systems Expands into Airport Surface Surveillance with MLX1090
SeRo Systems has announced a significant addition to its range of air traffic surveillance solutions with the introduction of its latest product, the MLX1090. This state-of-the-art Surface Multilateration (MLAT) System is meticulously designed to integrate seamlessly with Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems, widely known as A-SMGCS. This launch demonstrates SeRo's commitment to providing innovative safety and monitoring solutions within the aviation sector.
Located in Frankfurt, Germany, SeRo Systems has earned its reputation as a leader in air traffic surveillance and safety technologies. The MLX1090 is engineered following stringent EUROCAE ED-117A and ED-129B standards, aiming to deliver continuous monitoring and enhanced operational awareness for aircraft and ground vehicles in active airport movement areas.
One of the standout features of the MLX1090 is its integration of SeRo's well-regarded GRX receiver hardware with SecureTrack software. This hybrid system enhances situational awareness by merging high-precision multilateration with Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B) technologies. Such integration provides air traffic controllers and airport operators with a cohesive operational picture, empowering them with real-time tracking capabilities and safety alerts.
Markus Fuchs, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Security Officer of SeRo Systems, elaborated on the need for advanced solutions in the contextual backdrop of increasing pressure on airports worldwide to improve surface safety while managing operational costs. He states, "Airports today face mounting pressure to improve surface safety and operational resilience while controlling infrastructure costs. Our MLX1090 is a natural evolution of the airspace and ground monitoring technology we've refined over more than a decade. By integrating our GRX receivers with our MLAT and real-time analytics capabilities, we've engineered a scalable, cost-effective solution that makes advanced surveillance capabilities available to smaller airports."
Currently undergoing field trials at regional airports in Germany, the MLX1090 represents a broader enhancement of SeRo's portfolio, which already includes aerospace surveillance, RF spectrum monitoring, and GNSS interference detection technologies. This system is designed to cater to a wide range of airport types, from general aviation to commercially operated terminals.
In addition to providing continuous tracking and monitoring, the MLX1090 is built to operate on a dedicated on-premises server, alleviating reliance on external cloud services. This localized operational capability ensures secure server management backed by SeRo’s ongoing maintenance and support, overall delivering a reliable solution catered to the demanding requirements of modern airport surveillance.
With the MLX1090, smaller airports can now access the advanced surface surveillance technologies that were traditionally more accessible to larger airports. The integration allows for improved safety measures, helping airport operators to manage ground movements efficiently, thereby minimizing potential hazards in the densely populated airport environment.
SeRo Systems’ commitment to technological advancement is evident as they continue to improve monitoring capabilities while adhering to rigorous international safety standards. Their ongoing initiatives aim to provide top-notch surveillant technology, ensuring that air travel remains as safe and efficient as possible around the globe.
